Weekend Contest: DIY BlackBerry patenting

I know you’re all here to find out who’s taking home the GPS puck. Just wait two seconds while I get our regular business out of the way, and then I’ll get to it, relax. So, we just let you know about some new patents that RIM’s filed away, and we’ve covered even more patents than that in the past. I’m sure you all want your BlackBerry to be the best device it can be – so why not think of a way to do it yourself?

This week we’re asking all of you to think of a new patent that could be put away in RIM’s file – we won’t turn away any thoughts, no matter how crazy, stupid, or just utterly thoughtless they are (we have high expectations – can you tell?). Rim should patent, sensing technology where the blackberry knows you are holding it and it can tell you are in typing mode…. Once in this mode, buttons patented on the back of the device are made functional.

This could make input even faster as well as increase eye hand coordination of blackberry users.

Why stress your fingers even more? make buttons where your fingers are resting….

RIM should have a bluetooth version of a “kid-leash”. With a variable power to alarm you when your child is out of range.

They should patent a program sort of like pictochat for the Nintendo DS except it picks up the other Blackberrys around you and lets you talk to them in BB Messenger.

Blackberry should try to develop a voice recognition software to be added to the device for security purposes. When locked the user would then have to not only enter a security code to get into their device but also say a specific “password phrase” which is then analyzed by the voice software. Without the combination of both this number and phrase the phone would be locked and unusable…..obviously there would be some sort of RIM customer care that would need to be set up to allow for reset of Passwords if the customer forgot login info.
Also this software would have to be better than any of the voicedial software out there right now because I don’t know about you but I hate calling wife by accident when I’m trying to call my bookie!!!
