[...] Unforuntately, we’re not talking about the BlackBerry 8800 showing up on the scene. Last week, the folks at emoze thought they’d have a little fun and organize an “e-mail-off” of sorts with the BlackBerry, to see who could “provide users with their emails quickest” and, well, there’s no easy way to put this - the BlackBerry user was the one going to the consolation room. Both shooters stood back to back with their respective handsets - one a BlackBerry, the other a regular mobile phone with the emoze push email application installed. A Gmail account was opened and the email address given to the two duelers. They both created an email on their handsets, walked three paces and on the count of three, turned around and pushed ’send’. [...]

[...] Either it’s happened by way of money-grubbing managers or folks who don’t know any better, the BlackBerry 8800 has already made it’s way into stores and off of their shelves. Even with the official release date highlighted, news started popping up over at BlackBerryForums on Friday when a user noted that a rep had let him know about the devices being available at a nearby store. Sure enough, the original poster weighed in later, 8800 in-hand. [...]

[...] With the imminent release of the BlackBerry 8800, it would seem this next week will be one of the most anticipated in Research In Motion’s history. On the cusp of something special looming just around the corner, I’m sure shareholders could not be more giddy at this point. Record stock earnings should follow closely behind this week’s release. Oh, to be part of Waterloo these days, right? [...]

[...] As I mentioned in our podcast, last week I was contacted by theStreet.com’s Priya Ganapati regarding the 8800’s release date. Well, looks like she’s got the piece online, just as the official word dropped last night. She’s calling the 8800 (well, she’s calling it the “Indigo”) a mood-changer, and that this device will finally get RIM out of the $128-$137 price range it’s been sitting at on the market. “Indigo is an important evolution because it offers refinements that make it probably more attractive to business users who also want a device to suit their personal needs,” says Michael Abramsky, an analyst with RBC Capital Markets.
