We like to talk about new applications and such to add to your device to make it your own, but you know what? At the end of the day, the BlackBerry does exactly what it’s supposed to, and this is a perfect example. A lawyer who was caught in an avalanche while snowboarding in the Alps (I’m jealous – about the snowboarding, not the avalanche) was saved after he sent a message to his firm back in London from his BlackBerry.
Well, now we can literally call the BlackBerry a “life-saving device”, can’t we?
After receiving the message, mergers and acquisitions partner Matthew Middleditch dispatched a helicopter, at a cost of more than £1,300, to airlift the lawyer to safety.
Mr Middleditch yesterday played down his part in the rescue. He said: “They got stuck, they got rescued. There is really nothing more to it. I was in the office at the time, yes – but I am quite bemused by all this interest.”
