[...] So the big question last week was if the BlackBerry was more of a help or a hindrance. Obviously we all think it’s the bees knees, but Steve walks away with the big prize for his winning comment. He’s walking away with three Magmic games courtesy of BPlay. Congrats. As part of the Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing Community, the Blackberry is THE device to have with regard to staying in touch with others without being tied to a TTY phone, a computer with IM, or these days, our videophones. It’s PDA-like functions, internet browser, BBMaps with GPS (built-in or Bluetooth) and 3rd-party apps like GoogleTalk, GoogleMaps, IP-Relay etc., are incredible. I’m on it all the time! However, four weeks ago, while grabbing my Pearl from the nightstand first thing and unplugging the USB charge cord, I inadvertently knocked my hearing aid onto the floor. It was later found crushed, obviously from a heavy foot. Luckily, I still had my 10-yr old aid to use as a back-up.

That was until this past Friday when I repeated the above action.

"Doh!" Or shall I say, "Huh?"

BB Help - Oh yeah, it's made my life more convenient. I use EVERYTHING on it from the alarm to the most obvious use...email...from three accounts. Being a forgetful person, the ability to have an in-hand calendar and set reminders is great. If I'm watching TV and a new show is coming on, I reach over to my BB on the nightstand and plug in a reminder.

BB Hindrance - I'll tell you a little story. When I first got my Pearl, I was driving home from work and checking emails. Rush hour traffic is usually very slow. I was sitting there reading emails and all of a sudden....BUMP....I had hit the car in front of me. It wasn't a crash or hard hit though. It was a slow, unintended.."Bump". The guy in front of me, who was driving a convertible, turned around, gave me a jeer and kept driving! I just KNEW he was going to say I did damage to his car. Another hindrance, I wake up in the morning, reach over and check email. I do this without regard to the fact that I've awakened later than I'm supposed to or not. My Pearl truly rules my life....BUT I LOVE IT! :-)
