You have become so deeply involved in blackberries and the community (which makes sense, bbcool) that you fail to see that the enthusiast community barely makes up 1% of the total owner community. The average bb user is not on a forum site, visiting the blogs or "keeping up with the jonses." I don't imagine the average corporate owner giggling as they head over each morning to see what new news BGF brings.

The enthusiast community is being just that.

People have no clue what I am typing away on.(pearl in seidio case). They just look at me as rude. Blackberries imho are just not their yet. The features they are coming out with, have already been out for some pocket pc phones on the market.

From what i can gather in the tri-state area, most have verizon and most want a phone like the chocolate or the envy. I just don't see the market outside of business for the blackberry.

As for keeping up with the berries... we are a very small niche of people, maybe 20,000 total who actually care about rim and their products. Face it, most blackberry users have blackberries because their company gave it to them... they don't even know what version they have or that they could even load software on it.

The blackberry appears to be the I.T./Industry/Executive tool to always be working.

Wait until the Iphone. blackberry who? (everyone outside our niche).

Like it or not, the Blackberry is a status symbol.

A few years ago, having any Blackberry made you look important. However, with Blackberrys becoming more prominent, the case right now is you just can't have any Blackberry but you must have the latest Blackberry. Because now feeling is that if you have an 'old' device, you're not important enough that your company will spring the extra dollars for the latest gadget. Hell, it could have been some execs hand me down device.

I'm sort of guilty of this myself, judging people based on what device they're carrying, it's a bad habit but for the most part it's based out of fact. RIM employees would be familiar ...
