[...] Our buddy Jibi posted some Pearl 2 speculations on BGR over the weekend, stemming from some domain sleuthing akin to the Curve situation. Model numbers 8110, 8120, and 8130 are all on the plate, and Jibi’s guessing that the 8110 will be a Pearl with an upgraded camera but no Wi-Fi, and the 8130 will be a Wi-Fi Pearl plus CDMA world phone action. As for the 8120, we’re looking at UMA (which is supposed to be called GAN, apparently), released with OS 4.3.0 and timed with T-Mobile’s other Wi-Fi handoff devices. All sounds like some pretty reasonable predictions - only time will tell if they hold. [...]

[...] Most BBCool readers saw our coverage yesterday of Boy Genius’ revelation that the BlackBerry 8300 would be branded as the BlackBerry Curve. This fine bit of sleuthing was the result of noticing that the blackberry8300.com URL — owned by RIM — now redirected to blackberrycurve.com. Boy Genius was also able to get confirmation from his (highly reliable) sources that the Curve would officially be announced next week at RIM’s Wireless Enterprise Symposium, which makes sense, as the home-team atmosphere would make it the perfect time to unveil their new device.
[...] The BlackBerry 8300 has officially been announced by RIM today, after much domain name speculation yesterday. The big news for this sucker is 2 megapixel camera with integrated flash and a “next generation” media player put together by Roxio. A microSD expansion slot will be included, which should be a given for something sporting MP3, camera and full-screen video support. AT&T will be carrying the Curve this spring (and T-Mobile according to BGR), with many more carriers sure to follow. This thing is a solid follow-up to Pearl’s initial foray into the consumer world, and will be making some big waves. Full specs and features behind the jump. [...]

[...] Well as I had blogged a couple weeks ago it would definitely appear that the consumer version of the BlackBerry 8300 will come to fruition. Reported today by the Boy Genius Report and BlackBerry Cool it looks like the BlackBerry Curve will be the consumer counterpart to the BlackBerry Pearl. Further confirmation could be RIM’s registration of www.blackberrycurve.com and www.blackberry8300.com [...]

You know, in the end, does it really matter what they call the thing? I really don't believe that anyone is going to try a Berry based on the name alone. They could call it the Blackberry Steaming Pile of Dung and all of us addicts would buy the device and call it the Blackberry SPD and be happy. I don't think some non-Berry user would hear Blackberry Curve or Pearl and say to themselves, "Ooh, I am buying that phone because that name rocks!"

[...] Navizon just recently came out with some software for BlackBerry that’s trying to emulate the GPS functionality being made popular by the new Curve 8300. Navizon uses cell towers to triangulate your position on a map, which doesn’t work so hot if you’re on a road trip going through sparsely-techified countryside – exactly the case when one might want a roadmap. Just take a look at some of the comments over at Gizmodo, and you’ll see the glowing reviews this product’s been getting. Kudos for trying, Navizon, keep reaching for the rainbow, but with competitors like Garmin on the hunt, you’ve got a ways to go. [...]
