India to be Berryfied

india.jpg RIM’s been pounding out the details with Mumbai-based Reliance Communications to get BlackBerry service on their CDMA network. Did you guys hear about the batch of seven low-end phones Nokia was releasing in India a few days ago? Well, if Reliance’s recent sales of one million devices in a week are any indicator of things to come, and Nokia’s going to be getting a chunk of that pie, maybe there’s some room for BlackBerry to get in on the action too.

India’s population of 1,126,000,000 is second only to China, which constitutes a lot of untapped sales potential. Since land lines are by and large impractical to install for that many people, there’s going to be a really incredible jump straight to widespread wireless usage. We’ll keep you posted on how RIM fares in this emerging market.
