[...] While everyone on this side of the Pacific has been nattering about Wi-Fi handoff, China decided they’d just 1-UP us and do it with their own TD-SCDMA network first. Ingenius bastards. Nexperia’s T3G 7208 sports full, seamless call handoff between EDGE, GSM, GPRS and TD-SCDMA. The only thing left to do is shunt the technology to the manufacturers, and you’ll be seeing dual mode handsets in no time. Despite delays, China’s still all about the 3G. Building off of 2.5G networks is a pretty sound way of making that transition. So, uh, how many networks does the BlackBerry 8830 run on again? 3? Huh. That’s alright. I guess.
[...] While Wi-Fi was obviously the next surprise to come, when Balsillie was talking “back end of this year“, it gets you thinking about maybe a Christmas release, so no sign of a hard device until, say, the fall. But here we are with shots considerably sooner, which (hopefully) suggests a sooner release date. [...]
