[...] Amid all this talk of integrating voice functions, Nuance has announced its acquisition of VoiceSignal today. VoiceSignal claims to have embedded voice recognition software on a range of products, while Nuance’s work has been split between voice and document conversion software. Any kind of voice software has been getting a lot of attention lately, and is probably going to work in Nuance’s favour in the long run. [...]

[...] Washington will slap you with a $101 fine for texting while driving. Not quite jail, but it’s a start. While it’s probably more of a temptation for Pearl users who can one-hand it, any QWERTY-pad thumbers out there actually try to write e-mails while they drive? The motion passed by 90-8, and is being proceeded by a motion to make hands-free functions mandatory to make any calls while in a car. Good thing we’ve got some of those kicking around. Gotta wonder who those other 8 speakers were. [...]

[...] Between GPS, text-voice, fixed-mobile convergence, and busting into the consumer market, RIM’s got a lot on their plate. No doubt many our faithful readers were right there on the WES floor, and more still watching from the sidelines. There’s a lot of different bases that will need to be covered by developers as new device features open up more and more possibilities. That’s where you guys, BBCoolers worldwide, come in: what’s the biggest thing to have come out of WES this year? Take “big” whichever way you want… maybe it’s a new marketing strategy, maybe it’s a new product, maybe it will make big bucks, maybe it will increase efficiency, maybe it will solve world hunger and make the world join hands. Whoever can nail down what the “big it” was at WES will win one free game, ringtone and theme from Bplay. [...]

[...] What with all the voice-to-text talk yesterday, it only makes good karmic sense that we get some text-to-voice news today. Simply enough, the recently-announced Voice on the Go application adds a boatload of voice-based functions to your BlackBerry. “Voice on the Go allows BlackBerry users to conveniently listen to their email, as well as use their voice to reply, forward, compose and delete emails and access timely information, such as traffic, stock quotes and news. Subscribers can also listen to and add appointments, search contacts by name or company and place calls by voice.” [...]
