Whooboy, here’s a summertime surprise for ya. An “anonymous BBCool fanatic” (finally, no silly nom de guerre) sent this to us last night and man does it get the BlackBerry fanatic in us pumped. Web browsing on the BlackBerry is almost universally derided by smartphone users (and mostly with good cause) — anything RIM can do to improve what some would say is the second most important feature of their devices is a big step.
From what we’ve been told, the most important feature enhancement is “tabbed” browsing support. There is also a new browser “home screen” that sports a listed history (with favicon.ico support, no less) and “search provider” functionality, courtesy of Google, Yahoo, Dictionary.com, IMDb.com, and Wikipedia. Although we won’t be getting our dirty mitts on the new browser until the fall (hmm, just in time for a new BlackBerry launch), this might just make Opera obsolete for BlackBerry users.

Looks like BB liked opera so much they have to copy it…… Fine with me!
will this browser work on OS 4.1 or only on OS 4.2
How do you know this is even real?
It doesn’t seem that difficult to make a quick graphic right up in the blackberry jdk/ that could just be a basic screen and that calls the built in browser now.
I say it is a hoax… the browser is much more polished looking then the pics above, why would they go backwards or totally make the browser look like opera?
Krad:
I can’t physically confirm the shots by using the new browser myself, but they came from someone with whom we have the utmost trust and respect. They’re legit, if only because said person is so afraid of getting fired (if you catch my drift).
Also, never put it past RIM to make something look ugly when they can make it pretty. Besides, don’t you want multi-tabbing on your BB?
Kinda pathetic how they’ve totally ripped of the Opera UI imo.
does it support streaming website? i.e. youtube?
i’d better be able to upgrade my new vzw 8830 to that browser or i’ll be pissed!
I don’t see a problem with copying anything from Opera that is better. Tabbed browsing would be okay, but not that big of a deal. The most important questions would be is it any faster, and does it have flash support (if that’s even possible)?
I have a HUGE question. I just got a replacement Blackberry curve and when I first got it last week, I noticed that the new “tab browsing” was already showing up on the Blackberry browser home page. This week, however, it is gone. Have I done something to make it disappear or are they still testing it out? Help! Need answer asap, please!
quote “don’t you want multi-tabbing on your BB?” unquote.
Well, actually, no. I’d rather the table support worked properly!
I don’t understand BB engineers. BB is supposed to be more than a mobile phone. But with my nokia N95 I listen radio over internet, play Ikariam and do everything I do from PC, and my new BB curve 8310 can’t open a web page with frames!!! BB sucks. This is unacceptable.
