New Skype client available for BlackBerry

Comments

iSkootFor anyone looking to circumvent long-distance charges, iSkoot’s just announced its Skype-based voice-over-IP client for BlackBerry. Shape’s IM+ came out not too long ago, and now we’ve got iSkoot as another option. Nothing wrong with options, right? I’m having trouble seeing the difference between these two services right now… both use SkypeOut credits, both use your data plan, both can run while your computer’s off… Maybe I’m missing something. If you had a bad experience with IM+, iSkoot might invite you to give it another go. In any case, if you’re interested, the software is free to try out while it’s going through beta testing, though you’ll need to buy SkypeOut credits to really get things rolling. Supported devices include the Blackberry 7100, 7500, 7700, and the BlackBerry 8100, 8300, 8700, and 8800.

we still have to contact Gateway.. when making a call
If u are in coverage country, it will be ok. But if u are in singapore or indonesia (not coverage country), u will have to make autocall to US gateway (international call) first… :-p
Cheap communications will not be happened.

    Hi, Simon –
Thanks so much for the write-up. We are really excited to be on the BlackBerry platform as we round out our smartphone-based offerings. I wanted to take the opportunity to lay out a few features that distinguish iSkoot from other mobile Skype products, like Shape Services’ IM+.

First and foremost, iSkoot is available for free! We don’t currently charge users any fee to download and enjoy our software. Some other key distinctions that set us apart from IM+: iSkoot users can call their Skype contacts with the push of a button (no callback involved), and for the cost of standard airtime and data usage only– no SkypeOut credit required. SkypeOut is only needed to route incoming Skype calls to your mobile phone and, of course, to make SkypeOut calls. :-)

Again Simon, thanks so much for checking out our software! As always, we welcome any additional thoughts or suggestions.

    Sincerely,
    Jacqueline Van Meter
