There isn’t any advantage to having rev A other then to use it for tethering, as the upload link is the only real plus over rev 0. And I heard from close sources that the 8830 is def not rev A ready as the chip does not support it like mark mentioned above

The 8830 uses a Qualcomm chipset that does not support EvDO revA. A software update will not be sufficient to make the 8830 operate at revA speeds.
