Bplay’s just recently released a Transformers game, and it got me thinking about how we need some new Transformers now that the movie’s on the way. Since there weren’t many examples of mobile tech in the show, some modern incarnations would be pretty badass. Maybe a clamshell cellphone glider? A brainwashing MP3 player, complete with earbud tendrils! A transforming PDA with a stylus laser-lance? He could have the whole knight thing going on, and everyone would bust his chops for being anachronistic. A BlackBerry whose keys cover the Transformer’s body like armour plates! Okay, would BlackBerry be an AutoBot or a Decepticon? It’s got the whole dark business demeanor thing going on, so I vote Decepticon.

Hmm … interesting point. Soundwave has an excellent retro-boom-box thing going on, but who uses ghetto blasters anymore? I hate to mess with a classic (and Soundwave wins, hands down, for coolest Transformer ever), but maybe he could be some sort of MP3/Video playing smartphone. And instead of cassettes maybe Ravage, Rumble, Laserbeak and co. could be Bluetooth headphones or GPS pucks.
