As noted earlier, there were rumblings of EVDO Rev. A sweeping the Great White North, and now Telus has confirmed that Alberta, British Columbia and Quebec have all been covered, supposedly blanketing 60% of Canadians in high-speed service. In terms of BlackBerry users, anyone hooked up with the BlackBerry 8830 released by Telus late last month should keep an eye out on an upcoming software update to get their Rev. A groove on. The 8830 uses a Qualcomm chipset that does not support EvDO revA. A software update will not be sufficient to make the 8830 operate at revA speeds.
Ouch, that’s too bad, Mark. Are there any BlackBerrys that will be able to benefit from the upgraded network?
There isn’t any advantage to having rev A other then to use it for tethering, as the upload link is the only real plus over rev 0. And I heard from close sources that the 8830 is def not rev A ready as the chip does not support it like mark mentioned above
