A recent study from Dimension Data determined that e-mail is now the primary means of operation. The survey was broad reaching, involving “390 IT managers and 524 enterprise users across 13 countries in the United States, Asia Pacific and Europe, Middle East and Africa”. It speculates the effects of gradual decline in face-to-face interaction at work; while productivity seems to go up, the report pushes for unified communications technology, that is, combining e-mail, phone and other mediums under a single interface. Well, BlackBerry’s got e-mail down pat, and presuming this trend keeps up, it will remain the enterprise device of choice. Voice is just the icing on the cake.
