Today’s the day that’s been rumored for T-Mobile’s release of the BlackBerry 8320, which has now been confirmed by a RIM announcement. The online store is stocked, and a few folks have said that they’ve been able to find the gold and titanium-clad BlackBerrys in their local T-Mobile outlet. Boy Genius already has his hands on one (go figure), and has done a side-by-side browser battle with the BlackBerry 8300 to test out EDGE versus Wi-Fi speeds. The results are interesting, to say the least. He makes a solid case that Wi-Fi for data transfer isn’t that big of a deal, so unless you have UMA support, the BlackBerry 8320 won’t rock your socks.

BBCool AppStore

I actually got it on Saturday. Both the gold and titanium were on display at my local T-Mobile store in Long Island. Its a fantastic phone. UMA works perfectly.
Actually, I would say that BGR may have been having issues with their Wi-Fi because everywhere else seemed to be having great results with the load time.
I would say it needs to be tried in several different places and making sure he has a stronger wi-fi signal. (some of the pictures taken only showed 2 bars out of 5, and personally, I know that when I only have 2 bars, my transmission really suffers). As much as I like BGR, I think I will wait until another company tests out the Wi-Fi, as well as asking if the 88XX series with Wi-Fi has the same load times? He also didn’t show the standard transfer speeds on things like file transfer either (which are suppossed to be boasting much faster in that too).
Just a Note, if you look at the signal that BG has in his videos, he keeps pointing out “EDGE” on the 8820 and then when he finally says UMA (Wi-fi), it only shows 1 or 2 bars. I’d love to see a more rounded test, as well as getting the load times for EDGE on T-Mobile.
