Stargazers are in for a bit of a treat today, as Starry Night has announced that that their sky-charting software is now available for free on BlackBerry and iPhone. All you have to do is punch in your ZIP or postal code and you’ll get some coordinates. You can set the time and date of the map, as well as which direction you’re facing. On top of that, if your device is packing GPS, it’ll grab the coordinates from there. For anyone who’s into astronomy, you can download over the air from space.com/nightsky/blackberry.html. We’d be interested in seeing what the coverage is like for their maps, so anyone outside of North America, feel free to drop a comment and let us know how Starry Night works.

BBCool AppStore

I downloaded this, as we have super clear starry nights here in the Cayman Islands, but it does not recognize any Cayman postal code, so we will keep looking up and guessing what is what up in the sky………..
Hmmm…interesting, but not really useful to the masses.
It doesn’t seem to work outside of North America at all. It keeps saying “Unable to look up location name” after entering latitude and longitude, and it won’t load map.
I´m Trying with BB8100 in Spain and it doesn´t work
I just loaded it on my Curve - 8320. After putting in my zip code, I hit the send button and I get a blank screen. That’s it.
Rogers users, has anyone tried this app on the Bold yet? This should be great for anyone with a telescope. I’m going to get the Bold as soon as AT&T rolls it out, but was disappointed that Handango didn’t have any astronomy apps. It’s great to know that Starry Night is available (and free!), but I’d like to know if this app will work on the Bold.
Same as krees23…It doesn’t find my postal cade and after sending…all I get is a blanc screen! Not impressed!
Just loaded it on my Curve 8330 4.5 ,living in Tennessee and it works perfect. Very cool it’s that its free. If anyone has other free ota apps of this kind please post. And if there’s anything in particular your looking for, just ask I may be able to help.
