Gtalk and Yahoo! BlackBerry clients updated

GtalkAs if Facebook wasn’t enough yesterday, we also got a Gtalk and Yahoo! chat client update up to version 2.0. After installing Gtalk here, there are decent upgrades, mainly displaying profile pictures, as noted by Robb, but I’m sure there’s plenty of other new features there that regular Gtalkers will readily spot. You can pick up the new version of Gtalk and Yahoo! Messenger over the air at http://mobile.blackberry.com on your mobile browser.

I can’t get Yahoo Messenger v2.0 to work on my 8703e. First thing that happened after instalation and restart was the following message displayed:

    Uncaught exception:
    java.lang.Error

The only place I can find the app on my BB is under Options>Advanced Options>Applications so basically all I can do is delete it.

Anyone else experiencing a problem, know how to fix this or know where I can get v1.0 at?

  2. 2 Tilley

I went to http://www.blackberry.com/instantmessaging/ load it from my PC. it works fine. wow… it’s a great app.

  3. 3 Kirrin

I am having the very same problem on my 7100g. Hope they find a fix fast, in the mean time does anyone know where we can get the older version to download again?

  4. 4 Kirrin

Is it just me or is the new version 2.0 icon for Gtalk really huge?

  5. 5 Eric

    Same thing on my Pearl

  6. 6 Pete

Same problem with my VZW 8703e.

I wiped my device and reinstalled everything, but did not attempt to reinstall the Yahoo Messenger. I’ll await advice from others, or until the bugs are worked out.

  7. 7 Michael

I have a 8703e also. When I upgraded I received the same error. After I cleared that the icon for Yahoo disapeared. I checked to see if it was hidden, it was not. I checked to make sure that it was in the program files and it was. I have tried resetting it several times and even deleting it and re downloading it, but the same thing happens. Now even though I have deleted it and Google Messenger I still get the java.lang.Error, it won’t go away even after I re-booted it.

Does anyone know 1. How to get the icon back 2. How to get rid of the problem that is creating the error message and 3. How I can get a clean bugless copy of Yahoo Messenger.

I have tried contacting BlackBerry and they say it is a paid support issue, and no one from Yahoo responds to emails.

I use this program for my job as I travel alot.

Thank You for any help or suggestions that you might be able to give me. -Michael Russell

Hi, exactly the same happened to my BB Pearl 8100.

  9. 9 Victor

    Hi guys

the same thing happened to me, just like Michael said. It’s not fair to be asked to pay for something they wrongfully provided.

I just want my previous version back…

  10. 10 Eric

Tried it this way: “I went to http://www.blackberry.com/instantmessaging/ load it from my PC. it works fine. wow… it’s a great app.”

and still get the java error message on my Pearl

  11. 11 Victor

I just dowloaded both application upgrades and they are GREAT! I had no problems at all.

  12. 12 Jason

I have a 7130e, and have experienced the same problem. Tried all the solutions listed above with no results. Has anyone figured out a way to make this icon appear, or gotten their hands on the older version?

  13. 13 Derek

If you guys go to the advanced options under applications and delete the OLD Yahoo Messenger client and then reboot, the new Yahoo Messenger should work. I was having the same problem and I noticed that and it worked for me.

  14. 14 Jason

Found a solution on one of the other forums. Go to Options/Advanced Options/Applications/Modules then scroll down until you see net_rim_yahoomessenger module (v 1.*.*) and delete it. After it deletes, the device will reboot, and when it comes back on, the error is gone and the icon is there.

  15. 15 Victor

I can not download it from PC (user restrictions). As far as I know, the newest YM version is working only on 4.2 versions (and afterwards). I have an 8700.
I would just need the previous YM version…

This fix worked like a champ for me. 8703e Verizon.

Thank you Jason, this is great, I will share this information with other users in need… :)

  18. 18 Reid

The solution with removing the net_rim_yahoomessenger module works like a champ. I am using a BlackBerry Pearl from T-Mobile. Thanks! This was driving me crazy!!

  19. 19 Michael

Jay- Thank you, thank you, thank you for the fix!

    Dear Blackberry-

Would it be that hard to put this into an immediate fix (or at least post a message saying what to do if you run into this problem)instead of ignoring every potentially negative thing that came your way? Sad. Disturbing.

    Thank you Jason!!

I am using a 7105t and I am still having all those mentioned problems with yahoo mesenger! Can anyone assist.

  22. 22 Sydney

I had the exact same problem. Loaded the new yahoo version 2.0 and it just screwed a lot of things up, 1) Yahoo Messenger disappeared 2)a new application , Voice Note was installed, and then the Compose Icon nows leads up to the Address book/Contacts.
I am getting the same java.lang.error

I just tried what Jason said, deleting the old Yahoo Version 1.0 first - found in the section Module from the Yahoo Messenger 2.0 Options/Applications/Yahoo Messenger section. It works now, thank you.
    I have a Pearl 8100.

Now I just have to fix the COMPOSE icon!

anyone know what it is acting up?

    Syd

  25. 25 Alex

    Thank you Jason!

I am very disappointed about how both Blackberry and Yahoo! guys are helping out users solve this. I spent a lot of time searching both sites for helpful info. Zero results!

Thank God there are search engines and people willing to help!

  26. 26 Kurt

Hello, I have a 8700g and I just completed the gtalk new version download, well after login, Iam not able to expand my grps. does anyone knows how to fix it

  29. 29 Reyes

I know that some people have been having problems with installing the new GTALK 2.0 on the Blackberry. I have a 8100 and figured out that if you update the software on the Blackberry GTALK 2.0 will work. The software must be 4.2.1 or greater for GTALK 2.0 to work. Once you update the software you might have to download GTALK again.

    It works great.

    Jason,
What can i say? you’re an angel! :) thanks!!
I thought I really messed things up upon upgrading my 7130g to YM ver 2. Same things happened, icon gone and “uncaught exeption:java.lang.error” appeared after reboot.

But after deleting the file, it works fine and the YM ver2 is great with new features Im now enjoying. Your post is truly appreciated! you’re the man!

note: the file to be deleted is at the bottom of the list (might help)

it is not possible to delete modules from the options->advanced->applications->modules list on the t-mobile curve

    anyone got any other suggestions?

    thanks

  33. 33 hkpolarbear

I followed the link, downloaded and installed Yahoo Messenger successfully. Could it be blocked by company policy ? But there is no icon showing. I check in Options|Advanced options|Applications and in the list I am seeing Yahoo Messenger 2.0.38 but I just can’t run it.

    Please advise.

  34. 34 Matty

Ive been using Gtalk for about a year. Use to have it on a 8700, then 8810, and recently got a 8310 and CANNOT download gtalk for the life of me to the curve (ATT). I have tried EVERY avenue to DL OTA with no luck… Any suggestions?

  37. 37 Nick

There’s no delete option for deleting the modules in the Blackberry Curve. Anybody find a way to delete modules for the Curve?

  38. 38 Mark C

    Hey Matty.

    Try mobile.blackberry.com

From there you can access the new version of Googletalk that works with the Blackberry Curve 8310

  39. 39 Michael

Does anyone know how to delete a module on the Curve 8320? The only thing it will let you do is edit permissions.

  40. 40 Stephanie

Has anyone figured out how to get yahoo messenger to work with the Curve 8310 yet? I get the error message: service not enable for this device. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!!

if someone comes out with a solution for this problm do share.we ll all appreciate it a lot

  44. 44 john stoddard

MAKE SURE that the icon of the new yahoo is not hidden. I had to go into menu, show all, then go under the IM menu in the curve and it was right there, simply hididng. unclicked hide and I was good to go.

  45. 45 4ps

John, That still did not work for me!

  46. 46 4ps

I didn’t come up with this on my own. All credit goes to DBraxton on crackberry.com but it worked for me so I thought I would share it. I have a curve 8320.

“8320 Users. You CANNOT delete the modules. I don’t care what the techs tell you.

If you are a t-mobile customer (If you’re not a t-mobile customer… keep reading), don’t waste time on tech support. They can’t help you either.

go to t-mobile.com/bbupgrade. This requires you to enter a valid phone number. Download the software for your phone. (ignore the stuff about version info. My version numbers matched, but this still worked.)
Its about 82MB. The installation package has a complete version of Yahoo, AIM and other stuff that wouldn’t install on my BB.

If you are not a t-mobile customer, call RIM at (877)255-2377. They can lead you to your providers hidden location.

    I hope this helps!”

YAY! I have yahoo messenger again! :)

  47. 47 Alamophotographer

Does anyone know how to solve the yahoo mesgr problem on the curve 8330 for Sprint. Tech Support has never even heard of this.
