These patents are coming too late in the game so far..alot of patents organizations apply for never really see the light of day, for the "newest" BlackBerry devices, RIM already has those lined up if you ask me and none of the patents released so far will make it into those devices, will we see touchscreen on a blackberry?...yup sure will..eventually..but not yet, that whole angular keyboard thing...thats one of those one's no one will ever see, as for the slider, I think we MAY see that soon, but the time is not right just yet.

Just for the record Phlo, I've recently received some credible information from RIM that there is a 9000 device in the works, and no 8900, hence the terminology change. Just semantics really, but there you have it.

Whomever confirmed that the MysteryBerry everyone's talking about is going to be the 9000? Right, nobody. Nobody reliable at RIM, anyways.

Now bear with me for just a second and assume we're looking at the 8900 here. The device's hardware specs seem pretty decent, the classic form factor remains. Built for people who are hesitant to accept innovative yet unproven changes.
At the same time, RIMs patent frenzy could indicate some changes for the 9000 series. Touchscreen, slider, perhaps (little chance still is a chance) even the roll-out keyboard. Personal and some corporate crowd will love trying those out, government, military and some others might stick to the 8900. They all get fast Berries with nice displays, everybody's happy and so on.

you know, i have to think that RIM has decided to dominate this market. With the recent marketing changes to their boxes and advertisements (the young girl in the car with the red curve)...it's obvious they want to start moving many more handsets.....and the "general" population is where they need to go.
Image is everything....why do I carry a Pearl instead of a curve or 8800....because my wife likes that the pearl "hides" easier in my pocket.....so when i'm not working, it's not as visible.....
i think we'll see a multitude of patents from RIM over the next months and years....with a small percentage being produced....but I also think RIM will start issuing units that are more and more geared to the general population and are much more attractive in appearance....working toward the ultimate goal of a full qwerty style keyboard (ala the curve) in a handset the size of a pearl (or i-phone even)

cheers!
