Since Simon first published How To Upgrade Your BlackBerry OS, there have been a ton of updates and questions from BlackBerry Cool readers, so I thought it would be good to republish with new tips and put everything on a single page.
Get started with your BlackBerry software upgrade behind the jump!
I was going through my BlackBerry settings today and I stumbled on a feature I’ve never used before called FDN Phone List (Fixed Dialing Number), located in Options > Phone Options > FDN Phone List.
The feature is an outgoing call blocking service native to your device. This seems like a useful feature for parents or companies that want to restrict the outgoing calls to either protect their kids, or keep bills under control.
To use the FDN Phone List feature, enable it by entering your PIN2 code. You have to call your service provider and get your code and once entered, you can being adding names and numbers to the list. Be careful though, you only have 5 attempts to get the code right and if you exceed this number, your device will lock and you’ll have to call your service provider again to get the master key. Hope this is of use to a BlackBerry user out there.

With BlackBerry set to touch down in China, ChinaDaily.com have put together an editorial about black market BlackBerrys and in particular, the famous knockoff devices like the BlockBerry and BlueBerry.
According to the article, many Chinese buyers purchase smuggled and fake BlackBerrys because they’re cheaper yet still carry the brand prestige. The BlackBerry and smartphone market is quickly becoming like the rest of the luxury goods market: swamped with fakes.

BBleaks and CrackBerry members have found the SKU’s for the upcoming BlackBerry Tour2 9650. The device is going to be just like the Tour 9630, but with WiFi and a trackpad. There may be some memory and processor improvements, but we won’t know until closer to launch. If we went by previous SKU leaks, for example with the 9550, we saw the SKU about 2-3 months before launch. So maybe we’ll see this device launch mid-March to early April.
The guys at Unwired View caught the Bluetooth SIG certification for the BlackBerry 8910 and Ronen at BerryReview managed to score a pic of the device. While there are few details circulating about the BlackBerry Curve 8910, we can only guess that it will be a minor update to the 8900 series for foreign markets. It could be the CDMA version and all we really know for sure is that it has the standard trackpad, something I would have loved on my 8900. We’ll start seeing more details emerge soon.
Today was a real fluff day in terms of news but that’s okay because it’s Monday and you’re probably looking for a reason to avoid the daunting week ahead.
A UK church, under the leadership of Rev. Canon David Parrott, blessed a heap of gadgets such as laptops, BlackBerrys and various smartphones, on the altar of London’s 17th-century St. Lawrence Jewry church. An effort, he said, to remind the capital’s busy office workers that God’s grace can reach them in many ways.
Parrott said the blessing ceremony was an update of a traditional back-to-work ceremony called “Plow Monday,” in which villagers gathered to bless a symbolic farming implement dragged to the church’s door.
According to a recent study by TiVo of its users, Palm ads were skipped over less often than BlackBerry ads. Palm ads were less skipped overall in households with incomes over $150,000, and they were also shorter. Around 97% of Palm ads ran for about 15 seconds, and they logged 30% less fast-forwarding than 30 second ads.
