OS 4.5 due out end of April?

BBCoolThe rumour from CeBIT has been floated out that carriers will be getting their hands on OS 4.5 by the end of March and customers should have access to it by the end of April, but the BlackBerry 8707 won’t be supporting it. On top of that, the BlackBerry 9000 will be packing OS 4.6, so you can expect a few new goodies with its launch, which should be good to go for WES. Seems a little fishy to launch one OS just a few weeks before another…

Okay, take a read on this link. In a nutshell, from a RIM representative, OS 4.3 due out mid April (video recording, voice notes, bug fixes) for most devices. OS 4.5 due out late spring or early summer with the rest of the features we have been waiting for (except html email, that is BES 4.1 sp6).

probably rushing it out because of the Jesus Phone enterprise OS 2.0.nothing like a little competition to strike fear into the hearts and to get things moving on the bberry side. I mustt admit bberry is slow as molasseses as far as getting updates. apple has a new update every week..lol but i still love my bberry. i hope bberry updates the html support for emails, and the browser. but this is glad to here, however i take it as a grain of sand, so i believe it when i see use it.

I will repeat, for Cory, from a RIM rep, OS 4.3 (which is already out on the 8130 and the 8120 will have it) will be out mid April. It will be basically what is on the Pearl 2 devices (they have video recording, etc.). Yes, what we were originally told was going to be OS 4.3 was renamed OS 4.5 for various reasons, they were already releasing OS 4.3 on the 8130, plus I think they wanted to push it off a bit to hone some of the features. Don’t believe what I was told? Let’s wait and see.

Well, every BB site has reported that what WAS 4.3.x on 8130 has been renamed (and modifed) to be 4.5.x when it comes out for other 88xx devices. Its even said to have already gone to carriers for cert.

So yes, we will see. I don’t really care WHAT they call it if it fixes how unstable 4.2.2.x is on my 8830. Or how unstable 4.3.1.x is on my wife’s 8130. We’re both having to do battery pull hard resets every few days due to spinning hourglass endless loop and 0 bytes free ram (per status screen).

4.3.0 is loaded on the Verizon 8130
4.3.1 is the handheld code with HTML e-mails, which is being renamed to 4.5

Cory and SLVR6… you are BOTH right. Stop fighting ;)

And everyone… just because RIM gave the carriers the code, it absolutely does NOT mean the carriers will be handing it out. The carriers dont want you to upgrade your software… they want you to buy a new damn phone.

David B, sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but as of right now, doesn’t look like the 8830 or the 8703 will be getting an update to 4.3 or 4.5 in the near future. It will not launch the same time as the GSM carriers do.

The CDMA curve will launch with OS 4.3, and obviously the 8130 has 4.3, however, as far as an “upgrade” for the world edition or 8703, expect to wait about ANOTHER 3+ months for that to be supplied.

Remember how long it took for Verizon to finally release 4.2? Get ready for the same thing in 4.3.

The 4.5 OS will be coming out when it comes out. If having video recording is so damn important that you can’t wait a while longer, then go buy your crappy iPhone. Enjoy the flunky address book, touch screen, not so great battery life, and other quirks. Apple makes good stuff, but IMHO, the Blackberry keyboard and associated software are better equipped to take care of my on-the-go business needs and still let’s me have fun in the process. What would you rather have…early Blackberry software with bugs or a solid release that lets you get your work done without hassle? Get a life! The newest release will be available soon so stop whining.
