If you find yourself using the Voice Notes app on your BlackBerry regularly, you should check out Pinger. By dialling into one of their many numbers worldwide, you can record voice messages and send them to individuals or groups. Unfortunately, only North American users are able to access Pinger’s web features, which include uploading your contacts by computer rather than through your mobile. Still, this is a pretty cool option for those looking to inject some personality into their messages, or just trying to avoid long-distance charges. Anyone tried this as well as Jott for Blackberry? Can we get a comparison please?
I have been using this for a couple of months. I use strictly as a voicemail replacement. I like it for two reasons. 1) It allows to records specific messages for specific callers (like GrandCentral; and, 2) When you receive a text from Pinger indicating that you have a voicemail, the text often contains the name of the person calling even if that person isn’t in your contact list. It is clear that Pinger is accessing a phone listing somewhere. It even (at times) lists the name of cellular callers.
I don’t like the fact I have to upload all of my contact info to their servers. Does anyone else care about this or is it just. being that this is a blackberry I have the numbers of people within my company that wouldn’t appreciate a spam text messages. This seems like a great way for companies to start getting mobile numbers…. Am I just paranoid?

This is Tara from Pinger. I just noticed your post and I understand your concern. I’m very careful with my own mobile number, so obviously I’d be even more careful with everyone else’s. We go to great lengths to make sure your address book stays private. We never contact anyone in your address book - it’s for your eyes only.
When you install the BlackBerry app, we give you the choice of uploading your contacts to Pinger because really one of the big benefits of having a BlackBerry in the first place is that all your contacts are already there.
If you’re really worried about it, feel free to bypass that step. You can always export your contacts later, as you get more comfortable with Pinger. We’re a pretty decent lot
