Verizon hooks FBI up with BlackBerrys

Verizon has shipped off nearly 20,000 BlackBerry 8830s to over 50 FBI offices worldwide. In addition to the usuals like email and web browsing, the BlackBerrys are capable of looking at no-fly zones, missing persons databases, crime alerts, and more. Verizon was on-site to transfer contacts from other phones, activate SIM cards and so on, and make sure that the tagging and tracking capabilities were working so that missing devices could be found. It’s interesting that BlackBerrys are good enough for the FBI, but not others

It says tracking? Does that mean gps is turned on?

Funny how Verizon wireless opens up their locked up phones for the FBI, but not for its regular customers, who are undoubtedly paying much much more per phone for service.

Classic Verizon
