		<description>Oh give me a break. Didn&#039;t the internet arise out of DARPAnet and similar connections between universities, government, and the US military? It was never the altruistic &quot;for the masses&quot; collaborative system that seems to be wished for here. Admittedly I haven&#039;t read more than the article posted here, nor am I familiar with Zittrain&#039;s work but somewhere all that collaboration needs to be paid for whether it&#039;s directly from a research program or simply by paying someone enough in their regular job to have the spare time to devote to it. Somewhere the developers and most certainly those who take the idea to the masses need to have their efforts supported and funded. In our world this is either from government subsidy or because a someone what&#039;s to take the risk and hopes to profit from it. Proprietary systems are done to protect that developer.

And fundamentally these systems are complex, they just have (hopefully) simple user interfaces - you&#039;ll always need experts to maintain them so there will inherently be a two tiered (or multi-tiered) system just as there was at the beginning of the internet.</description>
