Du announces BlackBerry service in UAE

Comments

UAEAlthough Etisalat rules the UAE market, underdog du has just announced their new BlackBerry services. The launch lineup is pretty extensive, and includes the BlackBerry 8700, BlackBerry 8100, BlackBerry 8300 and BlackBerry 8800. A BBCool reader had made the point that Du has a long way to go to catch up to Etisalat. To me, getting some BlackBerrys on the shelf is a step in that direction.

It’s good that Du now also offers Berries, but even though there are two telecom companies here in the UAE the government has said that they won’t allow any competition on price alone, so this won’t lead to any savings for customers, that’s pretty sure.

It is good news that the gap in product offeriings is narrowing between the two rivals. The blackberry service offered by du will not dent etisalats profits as most blackberry users are business people and wont switch over to a new number. du wont be competitive unless the number portablity is launched.
