Who needs OS 4.5 when you can have OS 4.6? Of course, you’re going to have to wait until the BlackBerry Bold is released to get it, but we’re all going to buy one anyways, right?
We’ve got our hands on a top-level feature listing of OS 4.6 (due 2nd half of ’08) and it doesn’t seem to feature anything we didn’t already know about, but it tells us more about what we did. New stuff? Almost too much to name… The BlackBerry Browser will feature increased support of web standards, like AJAX and CSS 2.1, spell check is now continuous (finally!), files can now be downloaded via the browser… you’re just going to check out the pics yourself and tell us what you like the most.

Hey hey, we take back what we said about this being a slow summer. It looks like we’re going to be getting exactly what the BlackBerry Cool Nation loves this summer: new features and functionality for our BlackBerrys! OS 4.5 is set to hit this summer for all BlackBerrys except the 8707. Another interesting note is that OS 4.6 (i.e. the BlackBerry Bold’s OS) is set for the second half of this year, making it seem as though our thoughts that an August release of the Bold doesn’t seem too far off the mark. We’ll put the OS 4.6 stuff in its own post.

Right now the pilot program is just in San Francisco, but could easily save time on waiting for a tables and grub once it spreads to other major cities like New York and L.A. With every company in the BlackBerry ecosystem recovering from an epic post-WES hangover (including us), you can expect breaking news and announcements to start slowing to a trickle during the dog days of summer. That’s why it was so great to receive these images in our inbox today: new BlackBerry accessories for summertime fun!
It looks like with the nascent BlackBerry Bold and RIM’s increasing consumer focus, we’ll finally be getting decent headsets to use for media playback. BBCool HQ is hoping that the stereo headsets with inline media controls will come standard with every BlackBerry, but the ‘Premium’ in their name makes it seem unlikely.
What else? A new charging pod for the BlackBerry Curve (available May 30th, and similar to the one already available for the BlackBerry Pearl) and more shots of RIM’s highly anticipated Bluetooth Stereo Gateway, this time for your car! Post a comment and tell us what you think.

Beamberry was showing off an upcoming PDF viewer at WES, toting offline file viewing. That means you can view full fidelity PDFs even when you don’t have a signal, since it’s all rendered on-device. BeamBerry PDF Reader, available this June, will be able to process PDFs stored on microSD or internal memory, attached to e-mail, or accessed through web links. An especially handy bundled feature is a file navigator to find and organize your locally-stored PDFs, as well text search. Keep an eye out for it soon!

Although history might have proven hydrogen as a slightly volatile fuel source, Bic, the reknown manufacturer of pens and razors, is going high-tech and developing lighter-sized hydrogen fuel cells that can hold up to 5 full charges. Due in 2010, they’ll work in conjunction with traditional batteries, acting as a backup when required. As is, they’ll be separate from the mobile proper and built into holsters, which is a default resting spot for a lot BlackBerry users. With 3G, Wi-Fi and GPS becoming commonplace features, battery life is at a premium; new technology like this can really raise a device’s overhead.
