Rogers iPhone vs. BlackBerry Comparison: Data/Voice Rates

A 3G iPhone fights a BlackBerry for smartphone dominance

With the recent release of Roger’s new BlackBerry data rates and the unveiling of their iPhone voice and data rates on Friday, we thought now would be a good time to offer a head-to-head comparison of both plans. Unfortunately, while Rogers has updated their data-only plans, they have yet to update their integrated voice and data plan, leaving us to compare the iPhone plan with its approximate BlackBerry counterparts. Still, the results are surprising and might impact your next smartphone purchase.

As you can see from the images above, the BlackBerry narrowly edges out the iPhone on the low end of the price scale, unless you consider an extra 100 MB of data and unlimited evening/weekend minutes to be worth the extra $6 (which you probably will). The high-end is no comparison, however, with the iPhone coming in $40 cheaper for the same features. We’re hoping this will change with an updated BlackBerry combined voice and data plan, but if it doesn’t, this might tip the scale for those wondering which new Rogers device to buy.

Go take a look at AT&T’s rates. Then look at these. Even though they are an improvement, they are still 2 to 3 times what the Americans are paying. Brutal.

Actually with Bell Mobility I’m getting 450 anytime minutes with unlimited email and unlimited data and WLM on my BlackBerry Curve 8330 for $91/mth taxes included. Not bad I’d say

I listened to your Podcast where an MP (?) was discussing a proposed piece of legislation to force the carriers to drive the price down.

These prices seem outrageous compared to the UK.

Also, why are they still charging the SAF if it has been scrapped by the government so many years ago?

    Canadian users, UNITE!

keep dreamin guys if you think this bill (c-555) will lower your bill it won’t all it will do is tell the provider you need to include the SAF in the price of you monthly plan. Bell did this and customers left because they thought Bell was ripping them off.(they are $8.95 SAF ??? Telus and Roger $2 cheaper)I do hope your right but I still think you all dreamin. Personal I made the jump to Telus not for price (they are still a good deal) but for service. I get great service from my dealer and that is worth my money.

This is true. Then again, we’re more likely to live long enough to use up our allotted minutes. ;)
