Plazmic LogoThe latest version of the Plazmic Content Developer’s Kit has been released, available for free download right over here. The biggest change in this version is that theme developers no longer have to have the BlackBerry Java Desktop Environment installed, which eould make it much more viable for Mac users (who can’t install the JDE) if a Mac version of Plazmic were released. This also seems like convenient timing, what with the highly innovative Crossbar theme just being rereleased last week…

•the availability of the Custom Home Screen theme type, which allows you to add any number of application icons to the Home screen and position them wherever you want
•the ability to change the theme type for an existing theme, which allows you to create a similar theme without having to recreate it from scratch
•the ability to import existing themes into new themes designed for a different screen size, which allows you to create a similar theme without having to recreate it from scratch
•the ability to add an icon which opens a specified web page in the BlackBerry Browser
•the ability to push the theme to the BlackBerry Smartphone Simulator directly from the Plazmic Theme Builder, to simplify the theme testing process; Plazmic Theme Builder also allows you to configure which device and which version of the BlackBerry Device Software to simulate
•the ability to add copyright and vendor information to a theme
•greater flexibility in customizing icon images in the banner, messages list, dialog boxes, and lock screen
•the ability to open and automatically update themes created using Plazmic Theme Builder version 4.2.2 or earlier
