I don’t know how BBerry manages memory at all. But this all sounds like a discussion of storage. I realize there’s not a disk drive in there, but put it this simple way: why would it take longer to read incoming email just because you’ve saved a year of messages? And I don’t know about defragging or whether there’s a recommended outer limit on storage use (80%?), but I’m with the guy above: do larger memory chips just let you slow the thing down even more? Or do they give you extra room to store good stuff?

Love a tip video that tells me to delete things on my BB that I would like to keep. Here’s an idea…write good software that doesnt hog memory AND releases it (this plagues all sorts of apps).

You can also go under Options, Security Options, then go into General Settings and turn on password protection, as well as Content protection (it will prompt you to set it if you don’t). Set the password, then back all the way out to the home screen, then go back into Options, then Security Options, and then you should see a “Memory Cleaning” entry. Enter that and you can clear some storage space by pressing the menu key, and selecting “Clean Now”. It doesn’t clearn a TON of storage, but some. it clears: Address book cache, Certificate Search, Certificate Status Manager, Clipboard, Content Protection Cache, Encrypted Messages, Key Store, and PGP Key Search. You can even add an icon for it back on the main home screen and set it to automatically clean when holstered. Once you are done you can go back in and remove the password, but it also removes the memory cleaning feature. In the above video it explains how to remove Preloaded pictures, but on my 8310 they are all locked and can’t be removed.
