You may not think the chances of getting a mobile virus is big, but it is out there and it is something you should think about. Especially if your planning on downloading third party applications, which is highly possible for someone to do. I think everyone should at least think about some sort of way to protect their phones. Just imagine carring a flexispy everywhere you go seeing everything you do.

There are few spyware for bb, those track your calls, sms and even location and obviously no gui, so you wouldn't know if you have one. So av is not entirely bad idea.

I deleted this off of my computer and I'll delete it from my Storm. It will inevitably bog down the system just as it does any computer. Complete waste of space and I'm angry that RIM would even exploit their customers like this. Sounds like something straight out of the Window's book.

I'm more concerned that RIM and other phone manufactures are going to start loading a bunch of 30-day free trials with their software like the PC manufactures do than I am an actual virus.

While I agree that bundling trialware is typically of Windows bloat installs, there is some logic. Although BB has to date been virus free, it can easily be a carrier for malware.

If some nefarious character sends the victim an infected Office document, it is likely that DocsToGo will open it just fine ignoring the malware payload. However when the victim syncs with their Windows desktop, the BB introduces the payload directly onto the computer bypassing the typical entry point at the firewall or mail server. In a layered defense strategy, anything that the malware writer can do to penetrate beyond the hardened perimeter is a bonus.

It just makes heuristic detection that much more important on the desktop if zero day exploits can now be delivered via BB.

It'll be the 1st program I delete. Don't tell me rim is following Window's annoying habit of putting stupid "trial" software on their products now! Just give me the device that I payed good money for, & don't burden us with annoying ads & trial software. Give me a break. McAfee sucks anyways!

Seems kind of pointless to me, unless of course RIM is not telling us the extent of the possibility of viruses on a BlackBerry, their has been a few "select" exploits that have been talked about as possibly causing a problem for BlackBerry devices, but most of which were proof of concepts, this (www.flexispy.com) has caused issues for RIM in the past as well...
