Gmail Mobile 2.0.6 now released for BlackBerry

Much like Kevin, I too spent most of my time at the BBDC praising the two nice gents from Google, but soon left them alone after they refused my third request for a job (one day…). Turns out it was a good thing I left them alone, as they were busy prepping an update to Gmail Mobile 2.0. Gmail Mobile has always been a must-have app for Gmail users that want to keep their Gmails separate from their regular BlackBerry inbox, and the Google team has made it even better. The most notable updates are basic offline support and multiple account management, but you can see the full update breakdown after the jump!

Head to m.google.com/mail to download the new version. Google: my offer still stands. I will work for peanuts.

Gmail Mobile 2.0.6 updates

* Overall performance improvement: You should experience significant raw speed improvement, smoother scrolling, and no freezing.
* Multiple accounts management: If you have both a Gmail and Google Apps email account, you can easily switch between them quickly. You will no longer have to use two different mobile apps to access personal and work emails.
* Multiple mobile email drafts: You can save multiple email drafts in your mobile phone, so that you can pick and choose what you would like to send later.
* Powerful shortcut keys: If you have a QWERTY phone, you can use shortcut keys. Hit ‘z’ to undo, ‘k’ to go to a newer conversation, and ‘j’ to go to an older conversation. See Menu/Help in the app for more shortcuts.
* Basic offline support: Can’t get a signal? Not a problem. You can compose and read your most recent emails even when there is no signal. Also, any outgoing messages will be saved in the outbox on your phone and sent automatically when you’re back in coverage.

It looks really cool but I stopped using it when I got 4.5 for my 8830 and now I can get my gmail email in HTML with pictures on my normal Blackberry Email. It looks like this still doesn’t do HTML? If not, I’ll have to wait till Gmail Mobile 3.0 to put it on my phone.

Installing this new version now, but cannot get this to work. I had a very sound 2.05, includes the google apps version. Dont understand what happens. Several re-installs now, once I try to log in, it hangs while loading the emails. At some point it does say: “This programme requires a working data connection. Please check your signal strength”. I have 2G and 3G and Wifi on (and the various combinations). Let me know your suggestions…

Seems that the service provider could be one of the rootcauses for “this programme requires a working data connection”. A collegue has the same hardware and software and no issues, even after installing 2.06. Could be service books, could be something with the service provider. I have KPN providing the network service.

    Who could help?

when i installed it this morning – i was getting notification of new email. LED light would flash.
few hours later – i no longer have new mail indication. the gmail app on my BB no longer receives pushed email. i removed and reinstalled the app and still the same result.

this morning when the app would indicate new email (LED flashing as well) and receive new email without me having to refresh, i must say that was very convenient. i’ve been trying to figure out why this doesn’t happen anymore.

I’m on T-Mobile and in order to get this and a few other apps to work, I had to add something to the TCP settings. Just goto Options – Advanced Options – TCP. For the APN, enter wap.voicestream.com and for the username and password just leave them blank.

Please note, this will only work for the T-Mobile Network. Contact your wireless carrier for their TCP settings.

Once I entered those setting, Gmail started working. As did Pandora, and a couple other apps that need access to the wireless network.

    Good Luck..
