BlackBerry Storm launch roundup

UPDATE 1: Bad news folks. The latest news from Telus is that the BlackBerry Storm won’t launch until December 8th. This puts the Bell November 21st date into question as well, simply because Telus is expected to launch first.

UPDATE 2: The Vodafone BlackBerry Storm has been officially announced, and will launch on November 14th for business customers in the UK. Expect the average consumer to get it around the 18th.

UPDATE 3: Best Buy is currently taking pre-orders for the Verizon BlackBerry Storm with a $50 deposit. Devices appear to be in stock by November 16th, but that isn’t a confirmed release date.

UPDATE 4: New info suggests a possible November 24th launch date and a $199 price tag after a mail-in rebate.

UPDATE 5: Finally! The Verizon BlackBerry Storm will officially launch November 21st for $199 on a 2 year contract!

It’s official: Verizon BlackBerry Storm launches November 21st, for $199

Verizon BlackBerry Storm to launch November 24th?

After spending time with the BlackBerry Storm during BBDC, it was a little hard to leave it behind. Thankfully, I did so with full knowledge that it would be returning to my awaiting hands very soon. Here’s the latest in BlackBerry Storm launch rumors for a variety of carriers:

PhoneArena is reporting that Verizon will begin selling the BlackBerry Storm in corporate Nov 15th and the following day at BestBuy locations. Ever since our initial Nov 4th post, the release date has been pushed back one day at a time. While we’ve been currently hearing the 19th from our sources, it’s close enough to not matter too much.

BlackBerry News seems to be wavering back and forth between a November 7th and 11th release date for the Vodafone BlackBerry Storm. CSRs place pricing at around £350 ($538 USD). Please take a look at BBNews’ photos for this post, it made my day.

As we reported earlier today, it appears that Bell may receive the BlackBerry Storm on November 21st, shortly after the two releases above. I wonder if Telus will try to undercut them by releasing on the 20th.

Excellent information. That would sbout right with what I have been getting told lately for a release of the 18th. They are really cutting it close to the christmas season. I dont' think this is really of concern to them though as I have heard that there is only a limited quantity of the device available for the launch approx 4000 units Canada wide the Telus rep I had spoke with had said.

    Is the BBStorm Triband?

The "Storm" may not be available for 7 - 10 days after December 8th.
According to a "BestBuy" manager ... Blackberry found a defect in a component that causes the "Storm" to revert to "default" after a few days of usage and being turned on and off.
According to that store manager the "Storm" lloses all email and other "settings" due to this bad "chip" ... so "Storms" that were shipped are being returned and replaced as quickly as possible ... but it is unlikely they will be in stores until at least the 15th.

In regards to my post yesterday

I am now hearing Telus is pushing back until the 18th but there is a lot of rumour on that one as each store seems to say something different.
I also heard though that until Christmas they will be offering the handset to be purchased out right for $599.99

I am very curious. Is there any possible way to purchase the blackberry storm online and be able to use it on guam on a local server.

I always keep with the best cellphones that come out
I am looking to upgrade ASAP from the Motorolla Q to the Storm.
    please email me answers.

    People still use MySpace? Seriously?
  • Tina O
AWH, so no myspace? That sucks!
  • @Tina O

The BlackBerry Storm will launch with the BlackBerry Facebook application, which will essentially let you use your Facebook account on your BlackBerry (with a few limitations). You can learn more about that here:

Ok, thanks. I've read several articles and reviews abt the Storm and most of them mention you will recieve message alerts from Facebook sent directly to the Storm but I havent heard anything about MySpace. Do u know the Storm will recieve message alerts from your MySpace acct?
  • @Tina O

Hey there! We just posted today on some possible pricing information. At Verizon, you could be looking at as low as $220 on a two year contract. No word yet on pricing information for Telus or Bell.

SO can anyone know an estimated price range for the Storm? I've heard/read anywhere from $350 - $600. Is this accurate?
  • chef nasty
Heard from a Best Buy employee that the Storm has been delayed and not coming out until December but definitely before X-mas.

I have tried the simulator and it is way cool. This helped me understand how the Blackberry Storm will work. I have read post about it being $199.00, $99.00 and even maybe free with a 2 year contract. I just hope it is not more then $199.00

Wondering if you can put your own full movies on it like I do on my Ipod. I know with a 18GB SD card it won't hold alot but it would be nice.
  • blue.manny
BAH. Why is Rogers always the SLOWEST!!! Won't even be getting the 9500 til Q2 2009!
  • FuturDreamz
I downloaded the Simulator. Way better.

I'm a guy with big fingers and even though i didn't have much trouble with the iPhone the Storm comes out stronger with it's larger keys. So the one thing you'll have to ask yourself is 1) Have you tried SureType and like it? 2) Are you comfortable enough to tap on a flat screen.
  • Danny boy
I hope its between the 7th and the 11th but it looks like its pushing more to the 15th or 16th. Hope they have alot of them !!!
  • needcaffeine
what were your thoughts, about typing on it? Is it as bad as the iPhone?
