PROs/CONs

PeeKaWho is a great little app that emphasizes customizing how the app works rather than how the app looks. I seemed to have some activation problems at the outset (my activation code wouldn’t work for the first few days), but the application corrected itself shortly after. Aesthetically, pop-ups are clean and provide users with just enough detail.

PROs

  • Looks decent
  • Functions very well and allows for a significant degree of customization in this area

CONs

  • You can’t allow pop-ups to remain on the home screen indefinitely.
  • Fonts could be smoother and the pop-ups could use a cleaner, sharper look.

FINAL CONCLUSION

PeeKaWho is a great app. It does what it does well, emphasizing function over form overall. On the other hand, pop-ups could use a face lift – you should be able to customize the look a little more. There could be more functions added: disabling the auto fade away for pop-ups is a step in the right direction, and the ability to flag emails would also be nice. Overall, however, PeeKaWho functions very well and I definitely recommend it to both business and consumer users. While I believe it lacks some necessary functions, rumor has it they have a released a beta of a newer version (1.161) that adds the functions suggested earlier and more.

    Nice review. Give it a few more features as suggested and you’ve got yourself a very useful application for the Blackberry (update those icons! Haha), and one that i’ll definitely purchase. Can’t wait to try this on the Storm.

    One point on the “Con”, you can allow the popup to stay on indefinitely if you uncheck “Auto Fade Popup” option.

    The storm should kill the iphone due to verizons stake in the less populated rural areas. People are looking for a high speed data phone that not only works in the city but works in the backwoods as well. Att’s gsm service lacks in these rural areas.

    I’ve downloaded version 1.160 and the SMS popup is not working. I’m running 4.5.0.97 on a Verizon Blackberry 8330 Curve.

    Yes, with some carriers, they prepend a 1 in front of the number. We have a beta out that fixes that issues(plus tons of other features). Check our website, there is a download link in the front page.

    I also have the Curve/Verizon and SMS is not working. I have tried the betas and have now upgraded to V 1.2 and it does not work on those versions. SmrtGuard support has been very supportive but not been able to resolve. Anyone?

    I take that back – I just rebooted and SMS is working in V 1.2. Thank you Smrtguard! :)

    I found this program to be very frustrating so I have tried to delete it. First of all, when the new message pop up comes on, it interrupts everything you are doing and you can’t type, for example,until it disappears. It also seems to hang up my Blackberry for a protracted period of time…maybe 5-10 seconds after the message disappears. It would be great if the pop up disappeared when I typed something. And the hang up of the device is very frustrating. Now, after deleting it, my status light seems to blink and stay on a lot. I don’t know if this is related. Maybe it didn’t delete? What does the yellow status light indicate?
