I got the storm with the first software which is now the old one. I'm still waiting to update mine and get my brand new one since mine came broken and verizon agreed to send me a new one at no charge. Only problem; I gotta wait til the 15th for the phone. No matter, i hear it's worth it. The newest software version fixes anything wrong with the phone itself, for example the slowness of the phone or innacurate touchscreen. I hear the new update makes the phone work way better than expected. So definitely get it. If this does not fix the phone verizon will replace the phone at no charge.
