PROs/CONs

Besides looking kinda neat, ColorLight doesn’t really do all that much. It’s easy to install and setup, and I haven’t experienced any bugs or malfunctions. But the downside is, you’re paying $6.99 (a sale that ends December 31st of this year) for an app that changes the colour of your status LED and, if – and only if – you’ve got a pearl, your trackball.

FINAL CONCLUSION

Though I’m personally not a huge fan of this app, I realize that many of you out there are actually willing to shell out $6.99 for an app that does nothing more than change the colour of your trackball and status LED. It looks kinda cool, but I got bored with it after a while. Still, if changing the colour of your status LED or trackball constitutes the only sliver of individuality within a fleet of suit-and-tie BlackBerry users, then by all means go for it. As for myself, it would be nice to see something like ColorLight as one of many features in an app that does more (i.e. a customize-your-device app).

    I thought only the original Pearl (8100) supported coloring trackball? But not the Pearl-2 (8110, 8120, 8130) models?

    You’re correct. Only the 8100 is supported when it comes to trackball colour changes (as far as I know).

    Is there anything that I can do to make the status LED not flash green/yellow while charging and turned off (or solid green while done charging).

    I have auto-on/off turned on to save batter and to prevent calls after midnight.

    However, if I charge the unit at night these status lights are ridiculously bright.

    just flip your BB with the led pointing down to the table :)
