RIM sues Motorola for ‘unfair competition’ practices

Comments

RIM logoThis isn’t really the news anyone wants to hear during the Christmas season, but it appears as though Motorola needs a holiday lesson about the value of sharing. RIM filed suit with Motorola on Christmas Eve, alleging that the mobile phone company has improperly blocked their attempts to hire current and laid-off Motorola employees. The suit, filed in state court in Chicago on Tuesday, comes three months after Motorola alleged that RIM violated an agreement reached in February that the two companies would not solicit each other’s employees. RIM has asked for a court order to invalidate the agreement, saying in its complaint that the pact had expired in August and was no longer enforceable.

“RIM entities continue to grow and hire new employees within the United States and globally against a backdrop of recent public announcements by Motorola that it has and will continue to make massive layoffs,” said RIM’s lawsuit.

RIM is also seeking unspecified damages for what it called “unfair competition” practices by Motorola. Motorola spokeswoman Jennifer Weyrauch-Erickson declined to comment on the lawsuit.

BlackBerry Storm 9520 and Pearl Flip 82XX – Rogers 3G BlackBerry Blowout

Comments

While the rest of us were quietly enjoying the Holidays with our family, one lone blogger was out working the streets for the latest in BlackBerry leaks. My boy Troy Brown over at BlackBerry News has uncovered photos of two upcoming Rogers BlackBerry Releases: the BlackBerry Storm 9520 and the BlackBerry Pearl Flip 82xx.

Here’s what’s known about each device so far. Both will feature 3G HSDPA. The BlackBerry Storm 9520 will feature Wi-Fi and the Pearl Flip 82xx will feature asecondary video camera for video calling. Both will be coming to Fido as well. No word yet on eventual release dates, but it looks like we weren’t that far off previously. You can see more slides after the jump!

Happy Boxing Day!!

Comments

While most of our American readership may not realize it, the day after Christmas is actually a holiday in Canada called ‘Boxing Day‘. It’s tradition in during Boxing Day for Canadians to garb themselves in the cardboard boxes of yesterday’s presents, walk out into the street, and beat the holy heck out of each other.

Actually, we usually just sit around eating leftovers and watching the World Junior Hockey Championship. To keep our Yankee compatriots happy, however, I’m going to break away from the food and the games to keep you updated throughout the day.

But if anyone wants to meet outside to rumble…

Happy Holidays!

Comments

From now until Boxing Day (that’s Friday, Yankees), the BBCool Staff is officially on holidays. You may see some sporadic posting up this week, but honestly, your time would be best served with your family than hitting this site. By family we mean your BlackBerry, of course.

Have a safe and happy holiday!!!

Momentem for BlackBerry
Nan the Power User

Welcome back, BlackBerry Nation, to Nan the Power User! Today, we are going to check out Momentem from Redwood Technologies. Momentem is time tracking software that helps you squeeze every last drop of billable time from your BlackBerry. Let me start by disclosing that I typically don’t purchase software for my BlackBerry. I’m a deal hunter who looks for free apps or beta tests to slide in for free. Further, monthly subscriptions scare me more than rattlesnakes in the floorboard of the Jeep at the ranch. (Everyone else is folksy these days; I wanted to take a stab at it.) So when I was asked to check out Momentem at $9.99 per month, I was prepared not to like it.
