e-Mobile Today Professional for the BlackBerry Storm is a great app that provides you with a clean and polished view of the time, date, your call log, SMSs, e-mails, tasks and appointments – at once! It is expandable, and all of the expansion packs available to complement this app – news, weather and stocks – still integrate with the Storm edition.
This is what the main e-Mobile Today screen looks like. You can select from a digital or analog clock to be displayed in the top right corner. I personally dig the analog. As you can see, it also displays the date in the top left corner. One of the things you may have noticed from the pic found at the beginning of this review is that the Storm Edition supports landscape mode. I particularly enjoy this in theory, but I don’t think the software makers really took advantage of this (you can clearly see below that there is room to place more information – perhaps an extra day on the call log or the tasks and appointments log).
You can view your missed calls, and the total number of calls on that day. When you select the pane, four columns appear, showing you your missed calls for Today in the area below while giving you the option to scroll over to the left and view your missed calls for the past three days. As I said earlier, I think the biggest difference between the regular and professional editions is functionality in general. With the regular version, you can only view these numbers, but with the professional version you can call the number by highlighting and selecting it.
Browsing through your contacts is pretty nice. Everything looks clean, and when a photo is applied to the contact you can see it in place of the little icon on the left side of the screen. Clicking on a contact’s number will prompt the application to ask whether you’d like to call or SMS that contact, and clicking on a contact’s email will prompt the application to ask you if you’d like to send an e-mail to the contact. I like this feature quite a bit!
You can also view your appointments and tasks in much the same way that you can view missed calls, only the panes above show you the tasks and appointments for the following three days. The professional edition allows you to view upcoming appointments by week, and view the appointments calendar for quick overviews. While the regular version allows you to view today’s tasks on the home screen and view tasks by priority, due date, time, and completion status, the professional edition also lets you sort them by category. You can also create new appointments and tasks directly from e-Mobile Today Professional.
Finally, you can view new emails and SMS messages in a clean, organized and mutually exclusive way (this means no combined inbox, for those of you who dislike this feature on the BlackBerry). You can compose new SMSs and reply to emails directly from the main application screen, which is a feature you can only find in the Professional Edition (for the Storm and otherwise).
Oh, one last thing. You can change the backgrounds (such as the one above), make the font larger, and change the colour to either black or white. Nothing remarkable, but the basics are covered. At least the larger font come in handy thanks to the significantly larger screen.
