Leading Mobile Broadcast Network Adds Desktop Widget, Android Support, More
CES SHOW, LAS VEGAS, NV – January 8, 2009 – FlyCast announced a number of new
enhancements to its industry-leading mobile broadcast network today, including a move to the desktop with its new player widget for PCs and Macs. Other announcements include support for the T-Mobile G1and other upcoming Google Android-based devices, a new “What’s On Now” program guide feature, a Facebook interface, a partnership with AccuWeather.com and support for AAC+ and Windows Media streams.

We haven’t really posted about this before, mostly because we never thought he’d actually be able to keep it, but it’s time to talk about Barack Obama and his BlackBerry. In response to questions of whether or not he’ll follow the lead of previous administrations and limit access to documented communications, Obama vowed to fight to keep his BlackBerry.
“They’re going to pry it out of my hands,” he told CBNC about his BlackBerry, a cellphone made by Research In Motion Ltd that handles e-mail and has become an essential accessory for on-the-go movers and shakers.
Beyond being pretty damn cool (Barack, hit me on BBM), this decision will have serious ramifications on the Obama administration. By choosing to have access to and communicate via email, all of Obama’s BlackBerry secrets must be recorded and archived for posterity. I for one cannot wait to read those emails.

Some of you may remember us mentioning Nintaii by Mobigloo back in October when we discussed the finalists for the BlackBerry Developer Challenge. ‘Nintai,’ a Japanese Kanji that means “patience” offers users a great gaming experience from start to finish. More recently, I also reviewed this app back in November, giving it a healthy and well deserved 4 out of 5. Well, Nintaii now comes equipped to handle the awesome power of the BlackBerry Storm, making use of the Storm’s accelerometer and huge screen. Sweet.

Ever wanted to tether your Linux notebook to your BlackBerry? Me neither, but I have wanted to tether my MacBook to my BlackBerry, and considering the difficulties getting that done, I can sympathize with an even more marginalized demographic.
Interested Linux users will need to download Barry, an open source application that not only allows you to tether your BlackBerry to your Linux notebook, but also provides synchronization, backup and restore and program management options. Here’s a full list of Barry’s services:
* charge your Blackberry’s battery from your USB port
* retrieve Address Book, Email, Calendar, Service Book, Memos, Tasks, PIN Messages, Saved Email, and Folders
* export Address Book contacts in text or LDAP LDIF format
* make full data backups and restores of your device using a GUI
* synchronize contacts and calendar items using the OpenSync framework
* use the Blackberry as a modem
