How to delete sent emails on Blackberry and not your desktop

22 Comments

Its annoying to have all your sent items sitting on your device but it’s important to have them in case you need to review an old sent email. So, we need to delete the items on your device, but keep them on your desktop for future use. To do this requires a quick setup, and a routine task:

1. Go into your messages.
2. Click the Trackwheel and select Search.
3. Scroll down and change Show from Sent and Received to Sent Only.
4. Scroll down and change Type from All to Email.
5. Click the Trackwheel and select Save.
6. In the Title, give it a name. Recommended: Sent Only.
7. For a shortcut key, pick a letter. Recommended: “A”.
8. Click the trackwheel and click Save.
9. This will now search and pull up all of your sent items. To delete them all without impacting your desktop, highlight the top most date, click the trackwheel, and select Delete Prior.
10. Now, on a regular basis you simply:

* Go into messages.
* press Alt-A.
* view the sent only items.
* Click the trackwheel.
* Select Delete Prior. Done!

    On messages, when I open the Menu and clic on View Folder, will the sent emails be there?
    Also how do I make use of those folders? They’re always empty; forgive my ignorance.
    Thank you for all your tips.

    I just checked three BlackBerries – an 8700 running 4.1 (factory settings), an 8800 running 4.5, and a Bold running 4.6, and yes all have Alt-O preloaded (I didn’t set it!) to display ALL Sent items including outgoing SMS and Calls.

    Not exactly the same, but close!

    My bb already has an option when I say delete to only delete from the phone only without changing the view. I have a curve 8320 running 4.5 but I think that option was there on 4.2 also.

    Sorry about that second post of mine. Seems the browser was loading up a cached version and didn’t show my first comment as getting sent.

    And when set, how can you modify this filter again? Searched abour everywhere, can’t find it.

    I made a mistake here and did not change ALL to EMAIL as per Step 4, now the A key is no longer available. How can I correct this?
    Thanks
