BOLT BlackBerry Browser now in public beta

Bolt BlackBerry Browser

Throughout the many stages of the BOLT BlackBerry Browser private beta, we’ve had a hard time keeping up with the demand for invites to make sure every member of the BlackBerry Nation got a chance to kick the tires, so to speak. Thankfully, Bitstream has answered the call with a public beta of BOLT Browser version .86. To download the latest version for your BlackBerry, hit the link below. Don’t forget to check out our hands-on impressions as well.

It looks tacky, they need to improve on the font rendering but overall it has no appeal for me. There is no improved performance over the native browser they claim it does. The cursor browsing is by far better in the native browser.

I agree with you Gareth about the fact that there is no improvement over the native BB browser. It also seemed to keep having connectivity problems with it on my 8320 (bearing in mind that Mini Opera worked perfectly from the get go) and I lacked the time and inclination to play around with it. Whilst I understand that it’s BETA software I don’t think it should fall at the first hurdle.

Amen to that, Gareth. There’s no way a simple java app will beat RIM’s browser. Now if only Skyfire would consider working on a BB beta…
