Sprint BlackBerry Curve 8350i

Great news for recent BlackBerry Curve 8350i users having problems enjoying some iDEN PTT goodness. Sprint has officially released OS 4.6.1.128 for the Curve 8350i, which should fix many known issues (minus the ‘echo effect’ issue, which I’m told will be taken care of in a future release). To download the OS update, hit the either the Sprint or direct BlackBerry link below. To figure out what to do after that, read our OS upgrade how-to (Telus 8350i users may find this particularly interesting, as it contains instructions on how to use an OS build other than your carriers for upgrade goodness).

More BES 5.0 information revealed — release date, features

Comments

Longtime friends of BBCool, Simon Sage and Al Sacco, were at RIM’s media event in New York yesterday (we couldn’t attend because of a scheduling conflict, sigh) and both were able to grab more info on RIM’s upcoming BlackBerry Enterprise Server 5.0 – codenamed Argon. First to release dates, where RIM claimed a Q2 release date for BES 5.0. This may seem like lip service considering Argon was due to launch, oh, nine WES’ ago, but according to RIM, beta versions have been in the hands of companies for the last year, and in use internally for two, so I’m confident we’ll see it soon.

In addition, our boy Simon was able to grab an extended BES 5.0 feature set from what we posted yesterday – you can find it after the jump. If you’re still hungry for more Argon info, Al Sacco has written a great article on the Five (BES) 5.0 Features CIOs Need to Know About. As always, we’ll post more about Argon as we learn more.

RIM announces BES 5.0

RIM logo

RIM announced today the impending release of the latest version of its BlackBerry Enterprise Server. BES 5.0 will add a bunch of new features to improve the BlackBerry experience for enterprise users. Here’s a quick list of what’s been announced:

* Retrieve corporate documents behind firewalls
* Add, read, rename and delete folders on the handset and have those changes be applied to the desktop email client
* Create rules within the inbox to filter email and have those changes be applied to the desktop
* View attachments in calendar entries and meeting requests
* Download and store emails and email attachments onto microSD cards

It definitely sounds like the main focus of BES 5.0 is improving desktop/BlackBerry interaction in regards to email and calendaring functions. I’m also really excited about being able to take better advantage of the microSD card. We’ll let you know more about BES 5.0 as soon as we get it.

T-Mobile BlackBerry Curve 8900 available at $199.99

The BlackBerry Curve 8900 is my favorite BlackBerry on the market right now. I got a chance to hold one in my hands and it was pure bliss. The keys are reminiscent of the old Curve, but they’ve been improved and the screen has a touch of Bold. Now T-Mobile users have the opportunity to get their hands on the BlackBerry Curve 8900, with its 3.2 megapixel camera, Wi-Fi and UMA support, BlackBerry PIM services and the 4.6 OS. Rejoice!

Visual Voicemail coming for AT&T BlackBerry users

Comments

AT&T BlackBerry users are going to get Visual Voicemail. The news comes from a BGR tip, based on a screenshot of the AT&T online account management system. The above pic is my horrible photoshop rendition of what the iPhone’s visual voicemail would look like on the Bold, and rest assured AT&T won’t put out something that terrible. According to BGR, the AT&T system doesn’t currently have a price set for the option, which could mean it will be offered free to Berry users. This doesn’t really jive with me considering the carriers aren’t known for offering free features unless you sell them your soul. In any case, I’m a big fan of Visual Voicemail and looking forward to it.
