BlackBerry Cool

Hey Kyle, don’t sweat it, really. Telefonica is the formerly state-owned communications giant that has their business common sense right where the spine loses its honorable name.
So, hopefully, one of the other not-so-terrible companies (it’s not like they’re any good, any of the cell companies at all…) will definitely move forward with Blackberry.
However… Vodafone, sole distributor of the spanish Storm -of which I am a proud owner- is not really doing such a great job of selling/servicing it. Anyone with an inch of forehead would understand that a Blackberry-like device WOULD NEED a flat-rate data plan. Not Vodafone. They sell it to you under the assumption that you are paying for such a plan -I had their Customer Service people confirm it not once or twice, but three times-, and then, at the end of the month, you end up with a 500 euros bill. “You forgot to call the (not-in-service) Blackberry-activation phone number!” That was their excuse…
So, to give Spanish users such a terrible BB experience, I’d much rather they didn’t sell it here. It’s even better to use my US Verizon BB8330 in roaming mode! Much less painful!

I question why you would say that a Blackberry would be better devices to support that a WM device. What evidence do you have?
From a cost standpoint to the carrier, launching a blackberry service comes with significant capex (i.e. setting up a link to the infrastructure etc). When launching a windows mobile device, you externalise all your costs; standard internet plan, customer exchange server and setup for push, some support (if you realise many countries don’t use T-support but rely on carrier support)
There are also a lot more devices to choose from and all the OEM’s are competing for your business; more so than with blackberry devices. Granted blackberry has spread its wings recently but there are still more WM OEM’s and models.

I hate to use the word ‘fanboy’ but the comments above sound like zero thought or industry knowledge have gone in…

I have to say, that I could not agree with you in 100%, but it’s just my IMHO, which indeed could be very wrong.
p.s. You have a very good template for your blog. Where have you got it from?

I don’t agree with Javier. I think that Vodafone give excellent support to the users and It is said that they have the best 3g/HSDPA network.

Spanish Market is different to others countries. Here an SME could get their devices without cost if you sign a two-year contract with the operator. It is common to get the BES licenses inside this contract, so there is a lot of money there. By the way, the operator have to pay to RIM a percentage of the user connection quota.

If you change the BB to another device, the operator get the full quota of the connection service, so it will earn too much money.

The good point is that BB service, in my humble opinion, is better than other devices, but RIM must take care of Android, Palm, Nokia and other devices that will have different role with the operator, they only sell devices, nor services.

I really don’t mean to sound harsh or anything, but I definitely was not commenting or giving my opinion. I was just telling the facts. Haven’t invented them! So it’s great to know that at least some people DO get decent service from Vodafone. As for myself, it has been simply terrible.

Yes of course, i know that administrative task could be wrong in some cases, but the network is very fast, and in the last 4 years being a BB user I only remember one morning with problems with the operator.
