BlackBerry Bling Pimps Your Email Experience

Comments

CaseMate Gold Curve Case

Nowadays, you’d be hard pressed to look around any public venue and not see a BlackBerry. It makes those of us that have rocked a ‘Berry since day one seem… a little less special. One solution: pimp your BlackBerry with ‘bling’ (that’s what the kids are calling it these days) to make you stand out.

Friend of the ‘Cool Al Sacco has compiled an image gallery of popular BlackBerry Bling. The bling in question ranges from the gold-and-diamond BlackBerry case above, to the ever popular ‘Pimp My Pearl‘ BlackBerry application. To see the rest, click the link below.

Free BlackBerry Storm applications – YouTube, Weather and Tiltris

Lately I’ve been posting a lot of links to software and staying away from the typical news. I’m really trying to build a community around BlackBerry apps where we can share information and our thoughts about the apps with the community. In the end, BlackBerry Cool should be a discovery portal for the best and most useful apps in the BlackBerry space, as well as a place to talk about the news.

Let the community know what you think about these apps:

YouTube for the BlackBerry Storm

A YouTube client for the Storm makes searching and finding popular videos along with signing into your YouTube account a cinch.

Download it OTA here.

WeatherBug for BlackBerry Storm

Knowing what the weather is like is best left to smartphones. Who listens to the weather on the radio anymore? Also, getting your weather from TV is so 2002.

Go here to download WeatherBug.

Tiltris

Tiltris is a replica of Tetris (obviously) and it uses the accelerometer to play. It’s just missing the classic Russian dance hits to keep the stress levels high.

To download, point your browser to http://wap.GetJar.com, select Quick Download, and enter the code 51216. You may also be required to do a jig and say the alphabet backwards.

European snow reports and skiing conditions on your mobile

Comments

snowboard

Now is the time to go skiing in Europe! If the financial crisis will turn out as bad as the media would like you to believe, you may as well go out and spend all your cash now. Soon we’ll be trading animal skins for precious metals and generally living in the dark ages. That being said, time to celebrate with a ski trip in Switzerland. To check out the skiing and snow conditions there, you can hit up m.myslopes.com on your mobile browser. The ski holiday portal gives you the current snow conditions of more than 1000 ski resorts in Europe, on your mobile phone.

New social news and content site for BlackBerry

Comments

buzzwire

Buzzwire has recently announced a new community-driven, mobile destination site that is optimized for BlackBerry. The site is designed to help users navigate and share the best content on the mobile web. Each day you can view the top articles submitted by the community and see what other people like. Think of it as Digg or Reddit for BlackBerry. The service is free and is available by going to m.buzzwire.com in your device’s browser or go here to sign up.

Personally, I’m not a huge fan of these sites because I find it’s far more browsing than reading. Although they sometimes point me to an article I like, it makes my browsing experience about a thousand times longer than it should have been.

TripIt helps you plan trips with your BlackBerry

Comments

tripit

Simon covered TripIt back in April and I thought I’d send out an update of the company. For those that don’t remember/know, TripIt is very similar to WorldMate Live, but it’s a simpler and less robust travel planning system. I see them servicing different markets. Whereas WorldMate is for enterprise and travelers who are in need of serious planning, TripIt is for someone a little more last minute.

Here are a few quick angles about TripIt that you may find interesting:

– TripIt has received many Web 2.0 and travel industry awards, including the only travel site to make Michael Arrington’s sites he can’t live without for the past two years running, and the only travel site selected to present at all the top startup conferences: TechCrunch, Web 2.0, Under the Radar and PhoCusWright.

– Recently, TripIt was selected as the only travel app on LinkedIn, enabling millions of people to automatically see when their travel plans overlap with their professional social network.

– The company just announced an API that enables any developer to access TripIt travel itineraries and provide travelers with new services, like FlightTrack Pro the top paid iPhone travel app that now automatically tracks flights from TripIt itineraries.

Check out TripIt’s website to try out the service here.

Bell Canada acquires The Source

Comments

bellBell has recently announced that they’re acquiring the retail giant The Source. Bell will be using the store to help grow Bell’s wireless, digital TV, Internet and home phone services. The Source plans to carry the full array of Bell consumer services at its more than 750 stores across Canada, including Bell Mobility, Solo Mobile and potentially Virgin Mobile wireless products and services.

The Source is known for offering low prices due to its box store and no frills mentality. Does this mean we can expect to see lower handset prices? I’m hoping that with zero commission sales people, large volumes and increased demand, we can expect to see prices fall.

[UPDATE: I obviously confused The Source with Circuit City. Still, expect to see way more of Bell soon.]
