Get pop-up email notifications to your BlackBerry

Get a lot of emails? Tired of not knowing who messages are from without opening the messages folder? Well Aerize can help. Aerize alerts is an application that will notify you via a pop-up notification on your screen. The thing I love about this application is that it displays a photo of the sender if their picture is stored in your contacts. I’ve been using the application for about 4 days and it’s a must have!

Aerize Alerts is available for pretty much every Blackberry and the app is very small at about 38KB so no need to worry about installing a memory hogging application.

It didn’t take much to get up and running, a simple install from the Blackberry Cool store and I was ready to go. Aerize offers a 7 day trial but beware, because once the app is on your Blackberry it’s probably there to stay! Aerize needs almost no configuration once installed if you want to use the app defaults. The Aerize Alerts installs with pop-up notifications for Email, SMS and Calls but you do have the option to enable or disable notifications for any combination of the three (Email, SMS or Calls).

Other user configurable options are “Show if” which allows you to limit who the pop-up notifications display for, “Button layout” (self explanatory), “Body preview” allows you to adjust the size of the message preview, “Auto-dismiss” adjust length of time message is displayed and “Font size”.

The only thing that I found that may be a problem is, if you receive a large volume of messages it will notify you for each message unless you have the “auto dismiss” and “Show if” options enabled. Please note that this is just my opinion and this may not be an issue for you.

Overall for $7.50 you can’t beat the price for all Aerize Alerts have to offer. It will definitely save you some time and add some convenience to your day.

So go check it out and let us know what you think in the comments.

[ED NOTE: We have already reviewed Aerize Email Alerts, but it’s always good to get a second opinion.]

The problem is that the app does not respect Stand-by mode. If you have your phone in stand-by it will take your phone out of stand-by and pop-up the notification. If you like to use stand-by to save battery or keep your phone from dialing in your pocket – forget about it.

I asked the developer who told me to buy auto-standby to get around the problem. It is just exchanging one pain for another. The concept here is good but the implementation is lacking.

Why must I pay for something like this? This is why RIM is going to lose out to Apple. This is a standard feature along with many other of the apps you promote on this site. Get with it RIM.

I would recommend against buying this software if you’re a Storm user running anything above OS .75, since there are multiple problems that quite a few people are experiencing. AeriZe has not updated the app since December, and after a lot of ignored support emails, they finally stated no updates will be released until RIM and Verizon release an OS update to the Storm. Buyer beware!
