Police officer crashes his car while checking his BlackBerry

This isn’t really much of a BlackBerry news piece but it’s still funny. A police officer crashed his car while using his BlackBerry.

The police chief of the south Seattle suburb of Federal Way has issued a public apology for a minor traffic accident that happened while he was checking his BlackBerry in his unmarked police car.

The city summed it up Thursday in a news release that began “Federal Way Police Chief Brian Wilson is mortified.” Apparently Wilson stopped for a red light on March 18 and glanced down at his BlackBerry to view newspaper headlines and e-mails. He then took his foot off the brake and collided with the car in front of him.

The Seattle Times reports no one was injured and the cars weren’t damaged. Still, City Manager Neal Beets gave Wilson a verbal reprimand. The police chief says he takes full responsibility.

It seems the police can’t even help their BlackBerry addiction!

Find what you need with a global search app for BlackBerry

Makers of the popular Quick Pull and MessageScheduler have recently released IntelliBerry, a utility that lets BlackBerry users search their contacts, apps and files. Additionally, you can program shortcuts – Magic Words – into IntelliBerry that allow you to efficiently search the web for images, Wikipedia articles, books, and more. I’m fairly skeptical of universal search software, and I like using a variety of searches that are designed specifically for unique contexts. I’m not sure if it’s because I believe there is a void of excellent universal search software, or if I’m simply too accustomed to my ways. In any event, I decided to give IntelliBerry a try and in some ways, I was impressed; in others not so much.

This hasn’t been totally confirmed, but it is almost certainly true. T-Mobile is rolling out additional 3G coverage in such cities as Wichita Falls, Rockford, Springfield, Beaumont and College Station.

See the pic for more details. Is your city on the list?
