I prefer the following solution using the camera flash light as torch for my blackberry:

1. Go to Video Camera
2. Select Options
3. Video light option to ON
4. Now go to Options in Main Menu
5. In select Screen/Keyboard
6. Left side Convinience key set to Camera
7. Save and Close

Now when you just press left side Convinience key, flash light will start and you may use it in case of any emergency with a single click.

If you do not need light when making videos, just go to options and set it to Automatic or off position.
