The “now available” title is misleading since the update, as mentioned in the post, won’t be available until Sunday May 31st.

  2. 2 DavidB

“coming soon” would be more accurate but probably not as attention grabbing.

Who really cares since any Storm user with good sense is already rockin’ this OS?

  6. 6 Jeff

Misleading? Its a completely wrong – someone must have gone away for the weekend.

Just got the update on my phone and I have to say it’s a definite improvement over what we’ve been force to deal with on the Storm. So far, using it put a huge smile on my face. It’s a noticeable difference in this version over .075

    Will give more updates later.

People just wait until tomorrow after 3Pm Eastern Time……

  10. 10 ST

    It’s still not up yet

  11. 11 Gregory Pittman

As of 11:00 a.m. Eastern time, the update is still not available. Any news on this, BBCool?

  12. 12 Ryan Farley

Showed up for me. I got the upgrade notification e-mail from RIM yesterday at almost exactly 3pm eastern. I plugged in my BB to Desktop Manager, it said an upgrade was available and it started the upgrade. So it is there, maybe visit the site manually to start the upgrade?

  13. 13 Gregory Pittman

Yep, did that. I’m on a hosted BES so it wouldn’t let me do it OTA or via blackberry.com/upgrade. It sent me to Verizon’s site to download the file directly but their site only has the December 08 version available for download.

  14. 14 Hallsie

Ok so here is a link to the file to use with the DM (It’s verizon’s file).

    http://www.megaupload.com/?d=I0UD9FPH

I’ve installed and it works well. Screen rotation is still very sluggish

The ONLY issue however is that it will not connect back up with the BES. It doesn’t even try. I’m going to try a pull now to see if something will magically work. I don’t even see any connectivity arrows going so it may not be going well here :( I may have to downgrade :(

BTW there is a work around on the web updater but if you do the work around it will uninstall all applications etc. from your phone. All you do is leave the “Application Loader Window” up with the error and click the “Check for Updates” button again. It will load a 2nd Application Loader window and it will actually prompt for update.

  15. 15 DavidB

Well, as of 12:51 EDT MR2 (.148) is still not offered for download via the smithmicro.com/vzw web site either, for “Personal” or “Corporate”.

All this time and publicity for the upgrade and VZW still can’t get it right. Sad.

Of COURSE we savvy folks have been running .148 for about 10 days already, but that doesn’t help the millions of non-geek Storm owners…

  16. 16 jason

i dled the update last night i have not had much of a chance to play with it yet to see how it works.. Just saying everyones having trouble getting it from here and i had no problems my self.

  17. 17 David

I had some initial issues getting the software as my Storm is on Enterprise, so had to uninstall Desktop Manager, then reinstall as non Enterprise to get it to install the update. So far so good with updating, as I am suprised at the speed change in the software! FINALLY!

  18. 18 jeremy

I am trying to download the update for my storm, but it does not work. All i get is a box that says I need to clear up 20 MB from my storm before I could download? Any suggesstions.

  19. 19 Josh

delete an app or two until you have freed up the space. I couldn’t get the OTA to work. It was prgoressing really slowly and kept freezing. The computer download worked just fine. I only had 30mb free in my app memory before the upgrade but 45.7 after. good luck!

  20. 20 Don

    jeremy, do a battery pull.

  21. 21 Dekkar

I did the upgrade. It took 75 minutes to get the download on VZ. Not sure why. I had to remove 19MB of space in my applications area just to get it to download. I had to delete some great apps via the desktop application. When I completed the upgrade, there was no way to get the apps back on the Storm. I did a general backup just before I did the upgrade. Good thing, as a large number of thing were missing like my custom contact ring tones. I used the full backup feature on the desktop application and those things were replaced. The applications I had to remove to get the OS to download? Gone. Had to start from scratch. That just makes no sense to me. VZ Tech support had no other solution.

  22. 22 Andre

Horrible update! Ive been on customer service forever trying to fix my phone to even make calls. No wonder I didnt know an update was coming up..Garbage

  23. 23 David

Nice features, but now my email alerts no longer produce sound. Did a battery pull, reset them again, turned volume up, still nothing. Cannot even preview the sounds… Verizon – FIX IT PLEASE!

  24. 24 Claire

My sound is not working either since I installed the update. No alert sounds and also can not play media files… !!!

  25. 25 rue 814

Love it. So much faster & smoother. Little if any freezing
Also had to delete some great apps. But well worth it.
No problems downloading it either. GREAT version

  26. 26 Holly

I am not pleased with my $500 beta version of Storm. I am unable to download the much awaited upgrade as it keeps asking me to free up 19MB of memory. I have deleted all my cool apps, all my mssgs, most of my photos, all my video, my call record, and it still asks for 19MB of memory. Yech. This is my third Storm. They keep replacing it with another loser version. They will not take it back. I wouldn’t want it either so I guess I understand. I do NOT understand charging a huge amount of cash for a cluster of bugs. I am way disappointed in Verizon.

  27. 27 Holly

Okay, how could I forget to pull the battery???? I do that like twice a week for the brain toots on this puppy. I think it has dementia and forgets how to work. It’ll just sit there with the clockette spinning until I pull the battery. At any rate, the update is loading.

  28. 28 Holly

    Claire-
Pull the battery and put it back in to reboot the phone.

  29. 29 DavidB

Seriously people. DO NOT TRY OTA UPGRADE!
Download the upgrade file, install it on your pc, and use Desktop Manager or loader.exe to install it.

  30. 30 NoodlesVr6

    ^^ I ota’d … its working perfect.. O.o !?!

  31. 31 london

Download quickpull from the app store and stop this battery removal madness!

  32. 32 Holly

    london-
The OTA worked well enough. Downloading to a Mac isn’t fun, as there are extra hoops through which one must jump.I still have to do a battery pull every other day. The message app is delusional and thinks there’s a mssg in there when there isn’t. This is my 3rd Storm and they all have that same glitch. It may be related to my email program. IDK

  33. 33 kenny

i just got the storm im only 17 n its my first blackberry i judt did the update n now i have no sound wat should i do

  34. 34 nancy

Just downloaded the new upgrade. Although it took awhile and I had to get rid on some games. It was well worth it! Runs faster and wakes up faster. We will see in the next couple of days how it goes.

  35. 35 prince

just updated mine, before i did it i was ready to throw my storm onto the freeway, it frooze , took forever to go from lock to unlock, the new software has fixed all the bugs i had

  36. 36 jeff

After 2 weeks with the .148 upgrade the phone / device is actually worse than with .75… I give up

  37. 37 Alan

Upgrade installed by Verizon Tech rep on Saturday morning. The Storm will not last on the battery more than 4 hours. Tech reduced screen illumination, disabled navigator, etc. all had NO effect. Battery drains in 4 hours. I’m making my third trip back to Verizon store for assistance. FRUSTRATING. Don’t upgrade until they get this fixed.

  38. 38 Jeremy

Hey I’m having the same problem I have searched for two days to try and get the .75 back. My web browser is so slow I wont use it anymore. How do we get .75 BACK!

  39. 39 Holly

Okay, it’s been 10 days with the upgraded software. Storm still sucks. I hope they will realize their erroneous ways and allow us to return these sad instruments. Or, if they get the contract for the iPhone, letting us trade UP!!!!

  40. 40 colt

i did the upgrade it was telling me to do. deleted 20MB of material and continued. i have sound for my alerts and absolutely nothing for youtube/browser. the only way i can get sound from playing music thats on my phone is to hit the BB button and select speakerphone. is there something im missing cuz i have been going through the tools option for the last hour and havent seen anything i can do to fix this. any ideas? and dont suggest battery pull. ive done 8 already.

    hi

  42. 42 Holly

I hear talk of Storm II to be released. Storm I is less than acceptable. Verizon isn’t even plugging them on their ads. Walmart is selling them now. Why would anyone want to get another? I am really saddened by Verizon on the Storm venture, as well as the company’s lack of taking responsibility.

  43. 43 DavidB

    @Holly:
Saddened by Verizon? Listen, I know they are far from perfect, but if the hardware ain’t “right” and the software ain’t “right”, I fail to see how that is Verizon’s fault? RIM designs/builds the hardware and codes the OS. You can fault Verizon for being finnicky about what they would accept from RIM as a software build to release, and if its true Verizon nixxed the hardware including WiFi you can fault them on that, but truly if Storm is a failure the blame lies squarely on RIM.

  44. 44 Holly

    David,
True that! RIM is the maker of the software and hardware. But I don’t deal with RIM. I deal with Verizon and it’s their integrity at stake. They need to back THEIR product for which I have paid. I don’t see that happening so far. Therein lies my issue.
