Evernote for BlackBerry now available with OTA link

evernote for blackberry

When I last posted about Evernote, the comments were pretty upset about availability. First, the download is only available for the BlackBerry Bold, BlackBerry Curve 8900 and the BlackBerry Storm. Also, Evernote for BlackBerry is only available for OS 4.6+ only.

In response to this, Evernote has offered the download as an OTA link so if you don’t have App World, you can grab it here.

* BlackBerry OS 4.6 and later OTA: http://s.evernote.com/bbota
* BlackBerry Storm OTA: http://s.evernote.com/stormota

Please note that you can choose whether to download the app to your computer (ZIP) or to perform OTA (over-the-air) installation which requires that you visit the page specified from your BlackBerry’s web browser.

IM+ partners with Yap for voice-to-text instant messaging

Comments

Yap voice-to-text

SHAPE has been getting some bad feedback about their IM clients but they’re listening and are making improvements to their applications. Their latest update to IM+ for BlackBerry includes voice-to-text functionality powered by Yap.

With the latest speech recognition technology, users will be able to dictate their instant messages and send them as text to their contacts in Facebook, AIM/iChat, MSN/Windows Live Messenger, Yahoo!, ICQ, Jabber, Google Talk and MySpaceIM.

Although I would use this product, it’s fun to joke about the social awkwardness surrounding voice-to-text instant messaging. What about the conversations you text that you don’t want people hearing? Let’s hope SEXting doesn’t make its way to voice-to-text.

I’ll let you know when a Beta version is out for you to try.

Trent Reznor confirms Nine Inch Nails app for BlackBerry

Trent Reznor

Trent Reznor has somehow made the transition from Nine Inch Nails to technology guru, and he’s taking the Nine Inch Nails app to BlackBerry.

When Trent’s iPhone app was denied, he had a few things to say about the current hardware on the market:

The iPhone is THE most elegant, modern smartphone at this point in time and it’s perfect for what we want to do with the NIN app – except for the ludicrous approval process, and that’s what I want to draw attention to. Android is cool, but nobody has an Android phone. Blackberry is OK but the hardware is inconsistent and WinMo straight-up sucks balls. If Apple doesn’t get it together, we will most certainly make it available to the jailbreak community. I didn’t invest in this app to see it languish on the sidelines from an idiotic policy while this tour is in full swing.

I could not agree more with what he had to say about WIndows Mobile and Android but I think he misspoke about BlackBerry. It’s not that the hardware is inconsistent, it’s that the hardware is diverse. The iPhone’s major advantage is that developers can write one piece of software and deploy across the entire Apple spectrum. With BlackBerry, you need to port to many different devices.

CHARGE Anywhere POS technology wins innovation award

Comments

charge anywhere POS

As society grows more mobile, we’re going to see mobile money transactions become increasingly adopted. In countries such as Korea and Japan, mobile payments are commonplace. CHARGE Anywhere provides Point-of-Sale technology that allows merchants to capture payments and signatures directly to their BlackBerry.

CHARGE Anywhere was awarded the 2009 ETA Technology Innovation Award at this year’s Annual Meeting & Expo in Las Vegas, NV. CHARGE Anywhere’s Mobile Payment Solution with Signature Capture was chosen as the most innovative solution of the year.

The CHARGE Anywhere mobile payment solution allows merchants to accept payments anywhere by using their BlackBerry devices. With the addition of signature capture, the need for a merchant to produce, carry, and store paper receipts is eliminated. Electronic signature capture simplifies dispute resolution, optimizes operational efficiencies, promotes green practices and generally reduces costs.

Since the BlackBerry is such an incredibly secure device, I believe it will be a leader in spreading these payment solutions.
