Jim Balsillie was the first keynote presenter and he was introducing the speakers more than giving a presentation himself. It was good to see Jim Dog but the man of the hour was definitely Malcolm Gladwell.
Shane Robinson executive vice president, chief strategy officer at HP was at WES to talk about their latest cloud-based initiatives. The cloud is an innovative platform that is going to lead to some incredible applications for mobile and desktop alike. Shane put it best when he described the innovation following the birth of PC. When PC was developed, there was two decades of growth in applications and users. The cloud is the next platform to provide another two decades of growth.

Vayyoo has released a FREE variant of the popular vPost application and it’s available in App World right now as a featured item.
vPost is picking up huge momentum here at WES and it’s the official provider to RIM’s mobile bloggers. The official RIM WES blog being powered by vPost can be viewed at www.attendWES.com/blog.
“All BlackBerry users can now Capture, Prepare & Share multimedia with unprecedented ease. You will never need to use the native camera, video, & voice note applications ever again,” says Kyle Kemper, their director of marketing.
According to Vayyoo, vPost is now in the top 25 downloaded applications from App World and climbing.
The free personal use version, delivers to its users the core capabilities of vPost: easy and rapid capture of multiple pictures, videos, & voice notes; easy review and preparation via text annotation & geo-tagging ability; and since it sends via email the possibilities for sharing are unlimited.
There is a Premium Edition version available in the BlackBerry cool store for $10 which has an additional favourite icon, configurable size limits, address book, calendar, and inbox integration.

There is a Posterous account going right now where I’m vPost’ing the Best of WES 2009. At the end of the conference, we’ll all get together and vote on what you believe was the Best of WES 2009. The winner will get to buy me a beer and I’ll maybe hug them.
Keep in mind that WES 2009 is a consumer focused show this year so when we cast our votes, we’ll have several entries including “Best Consumer App”, “Best Enterprise App” and “Most Innovative App.”
What do you think of the entries so far?

I just watched Jim Balsillie speak at WES 2009 and it’s always great to hear the man speak. He’s a brilliant public speaker and the company is safe in his hands.
If you’re on the consumer side of things, the keynotes here at WES may not be your thing but you’ll surely love to hear that Jim Dog is finally getting into the hockey space. The man who helped bring us the best smartphone on Earth has made his intentions known that a $212.5 million (US) offer was on the table to purchase the Phoenix Coyotes. One condition of the purchase was that Balsillie would relocate the franchise to an unspecified region in Southern Ontario.
The NHL is obviously trying to put the kibosh on the move but Canadians are going to rally behind him surely. Not only is BlackBerry a huge source of patriotism for Canadians, but sorry Americans, we just love hockey more than you. You have baseball, basketball and football; we have hockey.
