Dave, Chrysler dumping dealers will net them higher sales if it means that they can devote the franchise expenditures to producing a quality vehicle that people want to buy. Palm is not competing to be the lowest cost producer (which is where the philosophy of “SELL the stuff” belongs), but to be successful in the quality-conscious smartphone market (where Windows Mobile’s philosophy of “SELL the stuff” is hurting Microsoft). Verizon cripples its smartphones (like the Storm) in ways that would hurt Palm in the long run.

Paul, please consider that Steve Jobs & Company is probably the most control-freakish company on the planet. Basing your opinion of what Palm might do, based on Apple’s conduct, is a fool’s errand, IMO. The idea behind a company with tangible goods or services is to SELL the stuff! The more channels available for public consumption, the better. Care to explain how Chrysler dumping dealers is going to net them higher sales??

Why is it so hard to just ask the obvious question and not settle for the evasive answer? “Will Verizon be selling the Palm Pre.” There are lots of cellphones that are “like the Palm Pre.” Frankly, I don’t think that Palm will give in to Verizon’s control of the interface and regressive pricing policy, any more than Apple did.
